Does anyone know of a place where I can buy plans to build a trailer. I have all the tools and equipment for building one and just need some plans. I don't want to just start building and not really know what the outcome will be.

If you know of a place that I could get some plans for different trailers, please let me know.

Thanks
Paul

I know NorthernTool sells trailer plans. Didn't see it on the website but it is listed in a catalog so you might have to call them. Also, do a search using Yahoo! with the keywords "trailer plans". It will pop up numerous listings.

If you decide to buy one, checkout LoadRite. I have an enclosed 102" by 16' all aluminum trailer with a cap that weighs 1200 lbs. I can pull four quads and the trailer behind a 2001 Pathfinder (240hp) with no problems. Mine is actually a snowmobile trailer. They now make a drive on/drive off version for quads that doesn't have a cap that is about 200 lbs lighter.

Good Luck!

You can buy trailer plans from Southwest wheel. Also all the parts you need and they are very reasonable. I bought everything I needed for my trailer except steel and paint, from them...Arlan

Let's see if I can link up the pics to my 3 quad + stuff, 2-3500lb. axle, 840lb, $850 trailer. Made from a Mexican kit, sold locally, thin wall rectangular tubing. Steel mesh floor and tires and wheels and paint not included in $700 purchase price. Road tested to 95 mph fully loaded, made the 2,000 mile round trip to Pismo as its' maiden voyage.Trailer Pics

Hey fourlix, I like the trailer, that is what I am talking about.

What are the dimensions of the trailer. I am looking to build my own, but a place in town has a 6'X 10' trailer for like $900. I am not sure what to do yet.

Thanks for any more info

A single axle is okay, but won't pull as steadily as a tandem. Two 2,000 lb axles is way better than one 3,500 lb. axle. The rubber torsion flex axles are better than the spring and shackle sets, and easier to install. Axles must be precisely placed equi-distant from the ball hitch to have a good pulling trailer. Measure 5 times, weld once.
These things are cheap, I made my own 'cause I wanted it just so.
6'x 10' will handle two quads with room for coolers and stuff. I had a 5'x12' tandem from Big Tex. It was a great trailer but only hauled two quads, it also weighed 1,300 lbs, but cost only $1,000 brand new. It costs as much to build one as to buy one, well maybe you save a couple of hundred building your own, but it is more work than it looks. I priced the steel out and building from this kit only cost about a hundred more than just starting from scratch. But the tubing in this kit was lighter than anything I could get here. Weight was a primary consideration. My 3 quad 6'x 14' is 450 lbs lighter than the Big tex 5'x 12'. If you don't live in the sticks like me, you can probably get the thinner wall tubing, which I would recommend. MIG welder a neccessity. This kit is made from 2"x3" rectangular 16 guage tubing, and using steel mesh for flooring saves lots of weight and you never have to sweep off the trailer! If you need to haul 3 quads like me, the 6'x 14' is a good size, and allows loading a quad sideways in front and in back of the tandem wheels. Be careful with your fender size, those are the smallest tandem fenders I could find, from Northern. I traded the regular fenders back to the store for the spare tire. 6" side rails allows loading or unloading anywhere on the trailer, very versatile, even the Raptor doesn't hit as it rolls over the side, and the DS lack of reverse doesn't matter, as it can load up one side and off the other.
