Dirtwheels Dec. 99 has the Kodiak winning their shootout. Take it however you want to. Opinions on this vary greatly, but it would be a good thing to read for someone in your position despite which way the magazine's opinion went. They can at least tell of some fine points of each bike.

The 2000 Kodiak Handles better than the 450 thats for shore.
The Kodiak sounds like it might be better for you, because the Auto trans makes it a better mudder. I don't know what makes a good snow plower though. The tighter turning radius on the Kodiak will make it a better Trail bike.
The Kodiak might ride better with the longer suspension travel, but theres something about the Honda 450 sereies that just makes them very comfortable.
I think you better go ride both and see which on you like.
Arctic Cat 500, Well it's the Big Cat
