How to keep the air filter in place?
#1
I've had the air box lid off for a while and the air filter has been coming out of place after about 5 minutes of riding. I'm thinking of just using some duct tape. Has anyone came up with a very good way to keep it in place?

From another post I think you mentioned you ride a banshee. You have 2 options. Get a Proflow Filter setup from Pro-Design or get some sort of clamp on kit that clamps directly to the carbs. I would recommend the ProFlow because it will keep your intake track length nearly stock. With the banshee, the intake is short enough, if you shorten it, you will begin to loose some power.

As you have discovered, the the Warrior and certain other Yamahas, have an intake system straight out of the stone age, with the lid holding the filter in place...providing one puts it on just exactly right.
I quickly dumped that arrangement & replaced it with the Pro Design filter system, consisting of a billet aluminum mount which is bolted directly to the rear of the air box. The two-stage foam filter is then hose- clamped to the mount, making a dust proof system. As for running the lid to filter out dust, that does little or no good, since the dust is drawn into the air box thru the intake...get yourself a Moto Force air box lid, which is made with the elongated holes along the right side of the lid, giving 90% of the intake of running n open airbox, yet giving protection from water entry during washing, etc. This lid is availble in a clear plastic, making it easy to check the condition of the filter without removing six screws.
Jas. Lucky carries the lid & the Pro Design
system also. The filter system is right at $99. I don't recall the price of the cover.
Unless you have already done so, you may need to re-jet your main due to the increased air intake. In any event, I wouldn't run even a mile without the present lid on the stock system...it's just asking for major engine wear
