I would definately consider the 500 Magnum a good rec/utility quad. I'm not saying the best because I'm not sure what type of rec riding you do. If it's basically trail riding and things like that, it would to okay. It is well suited for my needs over flat terrain. But if you ride over bumpy terrain and rocky obstacles, the 500 Sportsman would be a better bet. It has IRS and alot of ground clearance. Both have True 4 Wheel Drive, not limited slip. And the Magnum makes a good utility quad also. Very powerful and dependable engine. I assume it's the same with the Sportsman because it's basically the same engine.

I wouldn't requimend the EBS in Ca. because down here in Louisiana the humidity and the heat combined with the extra heat from the EBS cause alot of melted belts and cover dwn here. If you are in the mountains then it is a must. Plus in the Mountains it is cooler so it is better. But I dought you will have a problem with it in MINNESOTA.

I do all types of riding, such as trail riding mud riding pulling A LOT (Take my word) Deep water crossings and so on, i have a question about teh Polaris belt when i am pulling a 6000 lbs boat and i am putting a lot of strain on the Atv and barely geting the tires to break loose is al that stress gonig onto the belt? if it is ill go through a lot of belts what is the best Atv for me?

i was looking at the Magnum 500 but only concern to me is the belt

I would REALLY consider the NEW Big Bear 400 model for 2000! It lookd like a great atv to me! I own a 99 350 Big Bear 4x4 and am VERY VERY PLEASED WITH IT!
