Yamaha Discussions about Yamaha ATVs.

Is there any difference running 10 inch rear rims? Or is it just for appearance.

I was thinking about buying some new tires and rims and I havent seen anybody buy 10 inch rims on the rear except for the dunes. What are the pros and cons if any. Thanks

I've heard this and it really makes sence to me, you get less bite with 10 inch rims due to less sidewalla flex, just what i was told!

Sidewall flex give you less traction since the side of the tire has little if any tread, the reason you don't see it too much is that there is less tire and more rim, so you are more likely to bend your rim on a rock especially if you lower the pressure to get more tracion. Personally I don't care, they look good.

Yep, Rob is right....the wider rim is more likely to snag on rocks, etc. The dune guys don't have to worry about that.

I would actually make the quad a little lighter since rubber weighs more than aluminum. Therefore more aluminum and less tire means lighter weight.

along with the weight difference......Anyone who has ever rode behind someone in the sand knows how much a paddle tire can expand under power. Like a dragster on the strip. The tires would balloon right up with a smaller rim.

i've got ten inch rear rims on my tecate (douglas red label). true, they will bend much easier after a large jump because there is less rubber to absorb the jump, which is why you see tiny 8 inch rims in MX, but i think that the ten inch rim looks awesome. i'll stick with the tens, it just depeds on what you like.
