I'm looking for opinions of GPS units for my ATV/dirtbike trips.
I want the ability to trackback, record mileage, top speed, avg speed. Obvious location coordinates. As well as the ability to record or transfer data to a PC.
Any recomendations or complants about different models??

Thanks

I have the Garmin GPS III Plus with a Ram mount for my handle bars (Cabellas catalog) and it is perfect. At Glamis I hit "go to" on the GPS and scrowl down to my pre-entered waypoints and enter "Olds" for Oldsmobile hill and and it shows up on the map and boom, it takes me right to it!! Go to Garmin web page and read about it. They probably have better ones now. Mine is a few years old. Does all you ask for and even more.

I use the Garmin ETrex Vista with a RAM mount. It works perfectly and is rugged enough so that it can go through mud, water, dust, vibrations etc, etc. It will give you every possible stat on your ride and has a "Trackback" feature that allows you to go home the exact way you came. Batteries are two X AA (I use rechargables) and will last for a full days riding. Mail me on maxd@ananzi.co.za if you want more info or if you need pictures.

The Garmin E-Trex Vista is the best bang for the buck ($320). Road maps, built in Magnetic compass (very key feature) and baro altimeter. You can download the owners manual at www.garmin.com to see it's capabilities.

I have a Garmin GPSIII+. It has all that you ask for. It should be dropping in price real soon as I think Garmin is going to discontinue this model. I will add that if you decide to purchase a Garmin you are getting a good product from a company that stands behind what they sale. I soaked mine and it was no longer under warrenty, after explaining the situation to the CS rep he replaced it with a factory refurbished one at no charge. Also do not think the unit is waterproof when using the battery spacer that is sold to help with vibration problems on units mounted on boats, bikes, atvs and such. I found out the hard way that it is not.

I use the garmin gps III Plus it's got everything yu want I download topo maps of the area I'll be riding from my laptop to the gps then when I get back home I can up load all the info to my laptop to see my exact route. if you go this way get the mount from garmin for 24.95 it mounts to the handle bars and snaps the gps III into place so It can't come out with out unlocking it from the mount also get the cigarette lighter adapter power cord and use it also so you're not using your batteries all up.

you can find all the info and accessories at Garmin's site they now have a gps V the other nice thing about the the gps III you can hook it up to your laptop with the right software and use it in your car and track all your current info while your driving.

I don't know what the ATV mounts for the lll are like but I bought the bike mount for my E-Trex and it didn't even last 1 ride. I took it back and Garmin refunded me in full. Don't waste your time - go straight towww.ram-mount.comand buy the apropriate mount for your GPS. Mail me if you want pictures of what the mount looks like on my Raptor.

I have the Garmin handlebar mount and I am not pleased with it because of the vibration. It shakes so hard sometimes, it makes my Vista go blank. It needs something to help absorb the shock. Going to take a look at the Ram.
