The Big Bear definatly does NOT make more power. The WOlverine has a higher compression piston, different cam timing and card that allow it to rev higher and make more horsepower.
The Big Bear probably makes more torque now that it's a 400, but not more power.
The advantage of the Big Bear for low speed stuff is in the gearing. However, I find that I rarely use 1st gear on the Wolverine anyway. Not to say that there aren't times when I wish there was a lower first gear, but I'd never need one except when I'm trailering.
The advantages of the Wolverine are more power, better suspension and lighter weight. For what you described the Wolverine would be a better quad for you.

can you slide the rear and do some good plowing do donuts and all with the wolverine?
(Quote from Nike5131)

Can you slide the rear? Yes, though it depends on the traction, and not as good as a 2wd quad.

Do some good plowing? Do you mean snow plowing? Never tried it myself, but the Wolverine would be more than capable.

Donuts? In the winter time on ice the donuts will blow your mind. In the summer time, no, it can't really do donuts.

For light utility work, the wolverine would be fine. It does have a rather high first gear, and would not be my choice for plowing by any means. As far as fun riding goes, its closer to the warrior than it is the big bear.

Unless you are set on something that you can pull and push with, you might look that wolverine over good. Remember these two things. Great steering, better suspension (like 7" of travel) and disc brakes all the way around. The only thing you will lose is the low end pulling power and rack space.

Choose carefully with this one, and check out a lot of stuff before you jump into anything.

I have a 01 Wolverine and it is very fun to ride. It climbs well, is pretty quick but not blazing like some of the new big bores. The suspension is excellent for a 4x4 and very easy to steer. Great all around machine.

I have ridden my friends 02 Big Bear a few times. It is not a Wolverine by any means but it is very fun to ride. I like the in/out 4wd setup as the Bear can slide around very easily. The steering is great and very easy. It is not super fast but it is also fun to ride trail with. It climbs pretty well also as I have taken it many of the same hills I ride my Wolverine up. I really like how comfortable the seat and the seating position. Suspension is smooth but don't have a ton of travel but unless you are jumping then you don't need to worry about it too much. Overall it is a nice machine and price wise is very difficult to beat dollar for dollar.

It is a tough call either way but you can have fun with both. I guess it depends on how you want to ride. If you just like to trail ride and at a medium to slow pace it would be great. If you like to really rip it I would say the wolverine is a little better. My brother is getting a new 02 Big Bear so either way he can't loose since we can trade and he can ride my Wolvy and I can ride the Bear. I actually like both machines so I could be happy with either but I would just ride them a little diffently.

Take it from me, I own 2 Big Bears and I would definetly take the Big Bear. As for the suspension, it is great. It feels like it is almost independent. It has LOTS and LOTS of power and torque. It has a super low first gear and on command 2/4WD. It is great. But if you want to jump and stuff the big bear won't be that good at it. The Big Bear is PURE utility and that is it.
