Sorry to say that I find it really hard to believe. Unless the person driving the car can't drive at all it shouldn't happen.
I've lined 2 of my cars up with 2 different Banshees. The results were similar each time....THE CAR WAS QUITE FAR AHEAD AT THE END OF THE 1/4 MILE.
First race was about 2 years ago with my '86 IROC (305 auto with a few bolt ons and Nitrous...not hooked up at the time), against my friends '98 Banshee (stock except for a K&N). We didn't have a flag person so I let him start us. He pulled ahead of me by about 3-4 quad lenghts (I got a great start with the old beast), but a split second later I was back in front of him the rest of the way (I wish that I could remember approx. speeds and things like that, but I wasn't paying attention).
Second race was earlier this year with my Taurus SHO against my friends 2001 Banshee. It was spring time and I still had my winter tires on so I wasn't expecting a good launch for sure. We had a friend start us this time, and just as I suspected I roasted the tires all the way through 1st gear, and a good portion of 2nd. He pulled me by quite a bit more this time and I didn't pass him until a little more than 1/2 way through the 1/4 mile, but I still won. If I had my good tires on, and got a good launch I think that I could have got him the whole way because my Taurus is faster than my IROC (when she's not on the bottle).
Now, nobody above stated if the quads that beat the cars were stock or modified. I suppose a modded quad that could pull mid 80's-90mph could beat a decent car in the 1/4 mile. My Uncle told me that he saw a Banshee smoke a Corvette one night, but I don't know if I should believe it or not.
Anyway, hope to hear more stories.

Oh yeah, I also meant to say that I did the math (hopefully it's right) to see what the fastest 1/4 mile time a Raptor could run and this is what I came up with.....Guessing that the top speed of a Raptor is in the 70's, I went with 75mph to be on the high side. If you could accelerate from 0-75mph in 0 seconds (yes 0 seconds....in other words be doing 75mph when the flag dropped) the fasted 1/4 mile time you could get would be 12.5 seconds. Now if you think about it you would have to be able to accelerate to the top speed in less than 2 seconds to be able to beat a car that can run in the high 14's right? Math wasn't my subject in school so hopefully somebody can really come up with something concrete on this.

Sparkster,
That would be awesome to see. If you send it to me at jlanphear@laborie.com I will put it on my site later today and then let everybody know how to find it. Thanks.

First of all the new mustangs are not that fast at all, but they are a hell of allot faster then their previous models. My old VW Gti Vr6 put a spanking to most , but my VW was modded. Secondly I bet she has the wanna be cool mustang with the v6 and auto trans. (That is such A crime to put a v6 in a mustang) So it seems very reasonable that a quad could take a a mustang.

I own both a 2001 Raptor and a 1999 Firehawk. I can tell you that there is absolutely no way my Raptor would be a match for my Firehawk, which runs 13.3s at 109mph in the 1/4 mile. The Raptor would be a much better 1/8 mile machine given its limited top speed of ~75mph. I seen modded Banshees, and they definitely would be. Ever seen a snowmobile on a drag strip? Wow!
As far as stock Mustangs, I've heard the new Cobras are pretty quick
