Stripped to Frame, Now What?
#1
I have a 96 warrior. The frame cracked on both sides, right above the swingarm mounts. I have the frame stripped completely. I want to get the frame sandblasted, welded, and repainted. I know where I can get all of this stuff done, but not sure about what type of paint, primer, etc... to use. Wanted powdercoat, but that is going to be about $400.
I can get it welded for free, is there any parts of the frame that need gusseting? The guy is an excellent welder, and will do a great job, figure I might as well get any other problem areas fixed while it's apart.
Now, my next ????, what kind of paint should I get. The guy who's painting works at a body shop, and will do it for free also, I just have to get the stuff for him. What do I get. I want something that's going to last.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

You should buy some Sandable Primer to put on the frame after it is sandblasted. Let that dry throughly and then put some coats of Engine Paint (silver looks good) and then let it dry again. I did this to my blaster and It came out good. If you have the stock exhausts too, you can sandblast them and use some Black engine Paint and even do the head of the engine. Here is a page of some pics of when I redid my blaster..

Mitsucar is right, automobile engine paint is the best paint to use on a budget. PJ1 makes a frame paint that is pretty good to and is offered in a variety of colors and holds up just as well.
