2002 grizzly troubles??
#2
Not trying to be a smartass, but if you go back thru the previous pages you find info on your question, also Highlifter.com has a forum and check under "Yamaha". I have a 2002 Grizzly and have not had any problems except once, under the right conditions steam from water splashing on the head and cylinder creates steam and the air intake under the gas tank above the cylinder will suck the steam into the airbox and into the engine causing it to cut out. There is a fix, have not had any other problems and my machine was one of the first in Maine this last June. If you check the Kawie site here and at Highlifter you will find some people are having problems with them also, I do not know any new designed machine that will not have a few bugs, the problem is some dealers do not take care of there customers.

I just got this info from another serious mudrunner "Mark the Barber" who is on this forum and highlifter's, from the pictures he posted of a Kodiak he snorkled, he could run with the big boys from Louisana. He has the new Griz and this is what he said about the steam problem, have not done it yet, but it sounds like it would work. Take the air box lid off and push the back-bottom of your gas tank cover in, so when you replace the airbox lid the opening for it is outside of the gas tank cover, or you can snorkel it. If you are interested in seeing him in waist deep water crossing this deep hole in this old wood road it looks like, let me know. Where in the yukon are you located? How do you like the Claws on your machine, am thinking about geting some for my new Griz.

Thanks GrizRodder. I couldn't find those pics on Highlifter, where can i find them? If you want to send me a link or pics my email is bergsma@yt.sympatico.ca
I'm in Whitehorse in the Yukon and we run a lot of swamp and tundra country, especially when moose hunting. We also have deep creek crossings in many of our trails. The water problems that some people are having with the Griz is one of the main reasons I'm holding off buying one. Any fixes or snorkel solutions I can find will be helpful.
The Claws are really awsome tires in mud! I've been really happy there and my buddies are impressed. When they get stuck I just drive in and push them out. At high speeds they tend to wander a bit and bump steer, but that's partly because my old bike has play in the suspension and steering. I didn't notice it with the stock tires, but when I put the claws on I had to replace bushings and tie rod ends or it was too scary to ride. It is also a bit harder to steer, mostly at slow speeds in rough terrain. If you do a lot of mud riding they are worth the trade-offs. They are also very stiff and tough tires, just fixed my first flat after 1300 miles and 2.5 years riding on them.
