Raptor vs Cannibal
#21
<< ONe thing that everyone seems to not recogonize is that the Cannondale is highley modified from the start.Take a Raptor and install high compression piston the better valve springs and full exhuast and change the filter adn see who gets beat. The raptor would win in every situation even on a MX track, remember the Can has full out race suspension so we would have to change that also to make it fair. Heres something eles to think about, the Raptor must be agreat machine if every ATV company is set out to beat it. >>
And Cannodale did beat it! The Raptor engine just sits too high and most of all it is much heavier than the Cannondale. Don't get me wrong, I like the 660R but I think Cdale has it beat.

<< The raptor is a great machine, but the cannibal offers more from the factory. The cannibal is only $500 more than the raptor and it has better shocks, equal (maybe more) power, is lighter, and handles better. Granted you can make a raptor very fast and you can make it handle better but that also costs much more $$$. I am definitely not flaming the raptor, I may end up buying one but I just think the cannibal gives you more right out of the box. If I lived near the dunes or more open areas then I would definitely get the raptor where I could mod it to 50+ hp and really use the power but where I live you can't use all that power. >>
The Raptor is good for power, but it will be in serious trouble when the V-twin from the Prairie 650 gets inside a sport quad. Twin cylinders kill a single in acceleration.

The bottom line is both quads off the showroom floor with no additional mods and the Cannibal beats the Raptor. If you go off and dump 4 or 5 grand into a quad it is then a custom quad and not the quad the manufacturer designed or had intention to sell you. We have three mx tracks within an hour of Rochester and pretty much 250r's 440ex's and Banshees win everything. The kid who dominates all the races in the pro/am class rides a custom 330r. There are only about 5 raptors who compete and they don't do well could be rider but yamaha says the designed the raptor to be a killer trail bike not a racer. Cannondale designs their models to race and they're fast and handle better. The raptor on the other hand I believe is better at doing a lot of different things and that's why it usually gets the best all around quad rating.

I raced a Cannondale, It was about 2 months old.
I have a slightly modded raptor, 12 tooth, airbox, rejetted.
(still saving for the muffler.)
In the drag racing, He got me off the line, That's where it stayed. I could't keep the front end down. I didn't lose or gain any ground. Raced Many times. He'd always pull away till the top of 2nd gear and we'd match from there ending the same distance from where we started, him slightly in the lead.
Same result on hills and flat. He just had the edge.
Ok, he got me on drag. I lost.
We Had a blast carving dunes, I will admit on the track we made. He whopped me.
He could not lose me, Or pull away... Except...
He was a better rider. He hit the monster jumps fearlessly. I'll jump far, And im not a bad rider. He hit them full throttle, And Caught MAJOR AIR!! I chickened out! His machine soaked up the jumps effortlessly and kept on trucking. I spent a few minutes Awe struck as a few birds flew under him.. hehe The landings he did were ruff, but, They would have been crushing on my raptor. I Don't think I'd ever pull off the height and length he did with my machine as is. He had the edge on suspension. I lost.
I payed 6100 for my raptor.
I went to look at a new cannondale and check out prices.
2 dealers can get them.
The cheapest I found was 7700.
And that's waiting about month till they get one in.
Prices may vary in diff areas, but thats what the price is here.
I wonder what mod's I could get for 1600 dollar difference and price??
hmmm 1600 in Mods??? Any Ideas?

Sounds like he was just a much better rider. Anyways if you want to jump like he did maybe you should look into some aftermarket suspension.

the way i see it, it depends on what kind of bike you prefer. for me, i like a light feeling bike with raceable suspension from the factory, one that you feel like you sit down in instead of sitting way up in the air like a raptor seems to me, and i like 440 and below bikes so i can run in the 250 classes. but other guys may like outrageous cc's and a big feeling quad. it's just what kind of rider u are and what you prefer,

Pretty much the same thing here. I just felt too nervous taking those sharp turns sitting up so high. I also ride in the woods and 440cc is all you will ever need.
