rounded shifter shaft

I just bought a project 225 three wheeler for 100.00 problem is the shifter shaft is rounded I dont wan't to take apart the motor to replace the shaft is the another way i can rig this as not to spend alot of money. Thanks

YOu could put a shifter on it, drill through the shifter and shaft, and put in a cotter pin or something. It wouldnt be as strong but it would work. Also you could tack weld it on there, just weld in a spot where you could grind the weld and remove it if necessary. Have fun

will a weld hold isn't the shifter aluminum or pig metal.

Good question, you could fab up a new shifter but that might take some work. If you weld it just make sure to do it in a spot where you can get at it with a grinder so you can remove the shifter if you ever needed to.

I've had luck on a kickstarter shaft (same style teeth) by straightening out what was left of the teeth with a dremel. Since you might end up welding it anyway, you have nothing to lose.
