can i go down on the front and go up on the rear at the same time or would it just be better to do one or the other to get the most low end on the machine

I think if you change both, you are not changing anything. Just size not gear ratio. For more low end, drop the front sproket one tooth.

I checked Renthal's website, for the front, you can get sizes from 10-18 teeth. I wouldn't reccomend going any lower that 11 or 12 though. For the rear, you can get 41-54, all of which are larger than stock. If you want to gain the low end power, I would slap on a 12T front sprocket, and a 42 or 43 rear. You don't want to increase the size of the rear sprocket too much, as that will decrease ground clearance, and could possibly cause probs. with any skid plate you might have. I know that it won't change the size signifigantly, but it always turns out different than how you think it will.

Good Luck

Being that a front sprocket is alot cheaper than a rear, get a front sprocket one less tooth than what you have now and try it. Go from there.

On my 87 I have a 11t up front and a 45 in back. I had to modify my armadillo skid plate it the back so it would fit. With my mods, this low of a gear ratio maxes me out at about 45-50mph.
