Oil seal leak on 00 kodiak?
#1
I have a small amount of gear lube leaking from my front differential where the cv joint goes into it. I looked in my service manual (pg. 7-7) and it looks like there is a oil seal inside the differential gear assembly that may be the problem. I think the problem is that I am in the mud an excessive amout of the time(which is not the problem) but I over pressure wash it after every ride. My buddies pick on me as I insist on washing it after a ride then the next ride I hammer into the goopy stuff again. This is almost a every other day occurance. My pressure washer is pretty powerful and I can see where it could have blown the seal in a little. Its where the green double offset joint(the inner cv rubber boot is attached to it) goes into the differential housing. Looks like a pain to replace but its gotta be done. Has any one else had this problem or have any helpful input? I do ride my Kodiak pretty hard and it has performed flawlessly. A new Grizz is in the works though as it sounds like it is as fine a machine as the Kodiak and then some. Thanks!

Stormy, I don't know anyone with the same problem, but I believe all ATV manufacturers advise against using a pressure washer to clean the bikes. Probably for exactly the problem you described. After reading your message, I know I'll definitely stay away from the pressure washers. My brother owns a Polaris 500 Remington Special Edition, and he's the first one who pointed out the the risk of damage. It's kind of too bad, manufacturers make and advertise that their ATV's will go through anything.....then you find out it can't handle the spray from a washer. Sounds like they should seal them up a little better than they do.
