Hey everyone, I am thinking of getting a Yamaha Wolverine,I want to ride fast trails,do some jumps and go through some pretty deep mud, How good does the Wolverine do wheelies?Do you have to sit on the back rack on your knees or can you just sit on the seat? Whats the Top-Speed on the Wolverine? I want to do a little work and ride the trails real fast but I need 4 wheel Drive so this seems to be a great choice,How good is the 4 wheel drive on the wolverine and how is realiability? I want something that will get me home every time, I am happy to see that the Wolverine has a backup recoil starter also, Does the Wolverine accerlerate fast? If I think of anymore questions I will post them in a reply,Thanks Matt

I purchased the first model year (1995) Wolverine and to this day I love it. It has great ground clearance and is lighter than most 4 wheel drives. Suspension is very good and steering is relatively light for a 4x4. So far, nothing has been able to stop it and I have ridden in some deep snow. Reliability has been excellent. I just replaced the battery a few years ago but thats the only problem I had.
Other than that, I just ride, change the oil and filter once a year, check the valve clearance every now and then an clean and re-oil the air filter when necessary. Overall I'm very happy with my choice. I would recommend purchasing good skid protection for the frame as it does not have anything other than frame tubes from the factory.

Good Luck!

Rockbasher, in fact it's still the lightest 4x4 you can buy. Lighter even than the Timberwolf 250 4x4.

Thanks for the replies,Do you guys think that the Wolverines 350cc engine will have enough power for me since I am coming off a 1991 Honda XR250R(Dirt Bike)? And what kind of Out The Door price can I expect for the Wolverine?

I just sold a 1998 Wolverine. They have plenty of power for trail riding. Your not going to be doing many wheelies with a stock bike though. I put the FMF Megamax II pipe, K&N filter, jet kit, and a White Brother's torque stuffer on my bike. It made a very big difference even when running the quiet core in the exhaust. I wouldn't recommend any aftermarket mud-tire kits though. They will give you some extra top-end speed, but I had 25x10x12 rear and 25x8x12 front blackwater tires on ITP Magnum wheels on my quad, and even after the mods, it lost alot of its low-end power for climbing the hills. I'd have to shift into 2nd or 1st on the big hills. It isn't a great jumper, but it can handle small leaps. I just got a 400ex, and when I jump on the new bike, it feels like I am landing on a pillow compared to the jolt that I got when landing on the wolverine. If you have any specific questions about the bike, just send me a message.
