<< Kodiak,
It's not the big conglomerates who make money on this stuff. The federal duties were lifted, but the pr1cks in the provincial government put their hand in the 'kitty', 'cause they could.

Yes your quite right there, rennym....Article 102- Objectives, paragraph "1" sub paragraph "a" of NAFTA supposedly speaks for itself.
1. The objectives of this Agreement, as elaborated more
specifically through its principles and rules, including national
treatment, most-favored-nation treatment and transparency are to:
(a) eliminate barriers to trade in, and facilitate the
cross border movement of, goods and services between
the territories of the Parties;
That is " till the provincial leetches get their hands in there"

Yes they are.
But, they weren't in there when there was duties to be paid. So the FTA paved the way to eliminate the duties. Everyone found that it was now cheaper than before to buy cross border.
Some brainiac in the provincial tax office saw an opportunity to grab a percentage, now that the percentage was being given up by the federal government.
So you get a net-net situation. We are no better off than before.

Yes there are no broker fees, but you still have to pay the taxes. So when your shipment comes in and you go to the post office, that's when you have to pay. Now because they are collecting the tax they charge a collection fee of about $5. Add this to the cost of paying more to have it come in the mail. If the package is to big the mail won't take it. There is also no way to track a package in the mail, so the insurance cost is higher. Any way you look at it they have you by the short hairs There is only one way to get around the tax, have it sent to you as a gift, and the declaired value has to less than $50. Now the hard part is how do you get a company to send you a gift? And if you get cought, "tax evasion"
