2003 Wolverine!!!!! Unbelievable!
#11
There's no manual transmission for the Kodiak engine, where the 660 has the Raptor tranny, new and improved for 2002. Outfitting it with an auto clutch would be fairly simple, and hopefully a low range would be incorporated into the "transfer case" for the 4x4. I would like to see them keep the I.R.S, it is one of the Grizzly's best features. The Grizz is already pretty lightweight at 600 lbs. I doubt they could cut more than 50 lbs from it, which would be reasonable. After all, if you added 4x4 to a Raptor, and WIDENED it, why should it add more than 100-150 lbs?
.....If the Grizz was LOWERED and WIDENED a bunch, and had a 5 or 6 speed tranny, auto or manual clutch, with selectable 2wd/4wd with a low range, keep the front locker, lose the auto gadgetry, then it would truly be a different model, and rate as a SPORT/Utility.
.....Even though this is rumor and speculation there is some good marketing strategy here. We see guys torn between a sport or a utility all the time. Many of my friends like to ride real fast, but want a 4x4 too. Much of the time, while riding my DS, I get into situations where I would like more ground clearance, lower gears, and reverse. But I am not going to give up sport handling for it. Our ex 660-Grizz, left me wanting some decent handling at speed and in the sandwashes. We widened it up from 42" to 49" but still rolled it *** over tin cups. And sold it.
.....The 650 class engines are really capable of decent acceleration and speed without mods. The 500's just don't do it without a lot of help.
....I hope newfirebullet is right, and burnoffski is wrong. We'll see.
