Here's my story. A friend and I were heavy into the Dallas street race scene, we thought it would be cool to take our modified banshees out to show these punks in there 5.0 mustangs that a little ol four-wheeler could stomp 'em. We had been to the 1/8th mile asphalt track and our quads were good for 8.0 - 8.1 at around 82 mph (much faster now). Now anyone who knows street racing knows that a real high 7, low 8 second car in the eighth is hard to beat escpecially in 1996. So we figured by the time we jumped it would take a low 7 second run for them to pass us, not to likely on the street. Thats the background heres the story...

It was probably our 50th time to go out there on the quads, everyone knew they were fast and it was getting to the point were we couldn't even get a race anymore. One night one of the rugulars at the races started running his mouth about the quads so we unloaded them off of the truck. We were parked on a little side street with our trucks so when the cops came we would have time to load up. My buddy went out on the main road first while my quad was warming up. It was a 6 lane road with a median, so he turned right and went down probably about 200-300 yards. Heres were it gets stupid. Niether of us had our lights on (2am) and he turned around and was coming the wrong way down the street. I came screaming out of the little side street in 2nd gear and as I hit the main road I saw him in the distance, I didn't think about him coming at me so I turned to look back as I slammed 3rd then forth and as I turned back around to see were I was going...BANG we hit. To sum it up, Neither of us had our headlights on and I was looking BACK, so I didn't see him coming the WRONG way down the street. I was in 4th gear strong and he was in third, I figure combined speed was close to 100. The banshee I was on was crushed, had to buy whole new front end except for 1 a-arm, it crused the frame and pipe on the left side, all four wheels, plastic was scraped, bars were bent and somehow my laser stars did not have a scratch. The other banshee caught most of the damage in the rear, axle, swingarm, ect. I could not walk for three days and had some serious road rash due to the fact that I had on soccer shorts, t-shrit, and a backwards hat (smart I know), but know one ever plans on wrecking!

Well, I can't top any ATV wrecks, but that story about the nurse falling asleep made me remember what I saw today. I was coming back from Albany, NY, on I-90, and when I got back into Mass. I heard talk on the CB about someone fell asleep doin' 70 through the toll booth, but figured it musta been a car. Anyways, I got to the first toll booth in Mass., slowed down for the traffic jam, and I then knew it wasn't a car.........The trailer was on the entance side to the toll plaza with the front tore off, the cement barrier was a little damaged, half of the booth in that lane was missing (I don't think anyone was in it), then on the opposite side was a ripped up Freightliner ( FLD I believe), and you could see the motor sitting on its side between the framerails, the hood and passenger side of the truck was gone, the front of the trailer was still hooked to the 5th wheel, and the front axle, fuel tanks, and side skirts were on a flatbed in the parking area. I guess the guy lived through it, but I imagine he's a bit sore......Luckily no one was stopped in front of him paying the toll...........bring on MATT!!! (Mother's Against Tired Truckers) Oh, well, I've seen a few good quad wrecks, too, but nothin like what's already posted.....

all these crashs are bad, and wouldn't wish them on anyone. i havent crashed mine yet, not enough to talk bout anyway, but i did have a real close call. i was riding at the mounds, in michigan( pay to ride open park) was coming off a trail twards a open sand pit area when some guy on the other side of the pit desited he was going to jump his motorcycle. i could not see him, and i know he didn't see me. i was quite shocked to see a honda coming out of the sky right at me!! all i had time to do is duck down on my quad, and his rear tire actually clipped my shoulder!!! hi didn't crash, and it only bruised my shoulder, but it was way too close for comfort!!! i walked twards him to let him know he was an idiot and explain to him this park doesn't just cater to him, when he just took off! i later cought up to him in the parking area, and explained that a park with 200 plus riders is not the proper place to launch yourseld off a blind jump into oncoming traffic. he actually looked at me like i should not have been on the trail then. i am glad i am a calm parson, couse i was 2 seconds from giving him a honda enima!!!

I've seen a few wrecks in my days too. luckily none of them were me

Once I was camped along the marienville atv trail where the bridge is in the woods on memorial day weekend. I was sitting there havin lunch and a kid on a 200 moto-4 rolled up, I watched from about 30ft away as he stopped in front of our camp and yelled for help, as he opened his mouth about 1 quart of blood came out of it. I jumped up and could see his quad was a wreck too with the bars down around the tank and axle at a 45 degree angle. I went over and asked what happened, he said he just needed a ride out of the woods (6-7 miles to pigs ear) where his dad was, as he looked at me I could see one of his eyes was allmost out of the socket, blood coming out of his nose and mouth I had him open his mouth so I could check it out, at this point I wasnt sure he was gonna even make it out of the woods if we gave him a ride. The roof of his mouth was totally broken from front to back, I looked at him from the front and his face was all out of wack, his skull was broke pretty bad. He was pretty coherant so I decided to get him out of there, we started down the trail and he was bleeding all over me. He allmost passed out on me a dozen times on the way out and I kept having to hit the brakes to keep him from falling off the back of the quad, his head would smack my helmet and wake him back up. We got out of the woods and I realized he was getting worse, but luckily he stayed awake to let me know which RV was his dads! I pulled around the side of the RV and saw his dad cooking burgers, I think his dad was gonna cuss me before he know his son was on the back, cause i sure dusted him out. They took him to the hospital in Kane and I guess he was allright, his dad's friend came back later to get the moto-4.

I went up the trail to see where he wrecked and found some pieces from the quad up on top of the mountain about 1 mile from my camp, evidently he must have been jumping the run-off ditches that the trail crew had cut into the trail to let the water run-off to the side. Looks like the backend came over on him and landed on his head, he had a helmet on but it was one of those "fake" full face helmets, it wasnt braced enough and I guess it let his head get crushed a little

Damn, warrior007.

I could have done without that one. . These are fears I live with every day I am riding with my sons. Motorcycles/ATV's can be very dangerous if abused and not respected. My youngest is a daredevil and will almost try anything. (He scares me the most). I hope that kid was alright and that never happens to anyone we all know.
