02 Grizz oil, Yamalube 10w 30 vs. Anything 10w 30
#2
By just regular oil, do you mean regular atv oil, or automotive oil? Definetly do not use automotive oil. Since this oil also lubes your clutch it will cause slippage and poor clutch performace if you use automotive oil. I would reccomend the Yamalube. It is not worth cutting corners on such a vital part of your engine.

I think the point he was trying to get across on automotive oils was this: Stay away from the 5w30, or any oil that reads 'Energy Conserving',these contain friction reducers that will cause slipping and eventually glaze and ruin your clutch. Most regular 10w40 or 20w50 car oils don't have that additive, and as long as they are changed regularly, should not be a problem.I used Yamalube for years, and it is spendy, but now I found some oil at Mills Fleet Farm, called Trophy,it is OEM certified by most Motorcyle manufacturers, and it set up specifically for 4 stroke wet clutch use. Best thing: VERY cheap, about the same as regular car oil. I have been using it the past couple of years, no problems. I hope this was some help.

The Grizz's and Kodiak's have a centrifugal clutch inside the trans just like the auto clutch machine's, that engage first to get the quad moving then uses the belt to control gear ratio's. the belt is engaged all the time so belt wear is minimal on these machine's. the Pra.650 only use the belt for clutch "action" that is why our belt's are wearing out faster, Yamaha does have a better design on their automatic.
