I'm considering a Warn 2500 for the grizz. but I am concerned about the position of the winch. It seems it would get wet and muddy an awful lot and I would be using this a lot in the salt marsh.

Anyone have a winch that they get wet and muddy a lot that is in good health? Does it just need to be kept clean and greased up?

Thanks

Brad

Drundel~

Mine is always wet & muddy, as so far no problems with the Warn. I've used warn winches for years, including on my trucks. They're just a darn good winch.

As for SALT...that I don't know, as I don't ride in any water or mud that has salt in it. My truck gets it in the winter time, but I have the warn cover for the winch. Good question, perhaps someone else, who has run them in your conditions, can reply.

Evening SilverBear,

I did a google search through newsgroups and I found a very small group that did and they just about all have RULE winches. Still looking for more reviews but I am kinda leaning towards that option. Someone on here got a RULE 3300 for $400, that's a steal, highlifter has it for 530 right now, and I am looking for other sources.

the warn on my wolvy is mounted really low.. it has be submerged MANY times for long periods of times... no problems

I wouldn't worry about it too much, as long as you spray it out/off with water after every trip

Kraw, problem is I would be getting to the blind about 4 to 5 in the morning and the ATV would be sitting there till about noon when we head back. I could get back to my house about 2 or 3, that's almost 12 it would have to stay semi-wet with salt water, that is my worry.

I don't know the warrenty but I don't think they would be happy if i called them and told them it was cover in muddy salt water for 12 hours and now doesn't work.

My winch is always submerged also and I have not had any problems yet. I've had my winch for approx. 4 years not one problem. I would imagine that salt water would have some ill effects. If I were in your situation I would use a hand operated winch or something that you don't mind replacing every now and then.
