any ideas would be great. it's a harded bolt in a aluminum swingarm. it broke off below the surface. i was trying to take the bolt out so i could clean up the treads with a tap and the bolt snapped. ahhhh.any help would be great. any of the drills i have wouldn't touch it...

What type of drill bits are you using? You should be able to drill a hole in that bolt with a TIN or TICN coated drill easy then back it out with an extractor.

find a snap-on dealer and get a thunder-bit. you just have to use a high speed drill.

Yea, those bits are strong....The reason I suggested a TIN coated bit is because it will hold a sharp edge longer. When you are drilling something by hand, the alignment isn't always great, so a coating makes the drilling that much faster and cleaner.

Been there and done that!
After trying an extractor, I had too drill mine out, tap for new threads, and install a slightly larger bolt. Had to remove the axle to get too the inside of the carrier to clean up and get the bolt out. If you wind up having to take the axle out, take a good look at your swingarm bearings while you are in there.

I almost had the same thing happen to me, mine broke off flush. I put a nut over bolt and welded it to the bolt. I did this a few times, each time it would wiggle a little and then break and would do it over again. You might be able to use this method some how(?) but I thought that I would share.
