I bought my '01 Kodiak used and it did not have a shock wrench (spring pre-load) in the tool kit. Is it part of the original tool kit? If not, where I can get one?

I tried my local Yamaha dealer they said its not listed anywhere and they could not tell me what is included in a tool kit, but they would gladly sell me a new one. Ya right!

One distributor of snowmobile parts told me Kimpex makes one that fits some sleds, but that it is to tight for the Yamaha shock.

Any help appreciated.

I have an 02 Kodiak that didn't come with one either. When I went to me dealer he said that the wrench's were ok but a pipe wrench works better. When I got home I tried it and it works great. The only thing to remember is to place an old rag around the shock so you don't scratch it. The pipe wrench give good leverage making it super easy to turn the adjuster.

The wrench that is "special" for doing this SUCKS. You are better off using an adjustible wrench or pipe wrench. It is 10 times easier and most of us own one already.

kodiac400 and frogman are right.

The "special" wrench does suck.

Use an adjustable wrench. Remember to lift the rear end up off the ground and support the quad's weight by the FRAME. It is much easier to adjust it with no weight on the shock. This way...the only pressure you are working against is the small ammount left by the unloaded spring.

Well yes a pipe wrench or channel locks work well enough, BUT. I am going to build my own that will fit under the seat. There have been times when I need to stiffen things up for a particular task and the truck might be 50 miles away. So if it works good, I'll post my gains or my failures.
