Help. driving in snow it was acting up; loss of power then stalled. Kickstart was seized, and oil low (not empty). few minutes later kick freed; but engine sounded different. seems no compression. put finger over plug hole and there is some push. any ideas? doesnt seem to have blown a gasket or other. doesnt seem to get gas but is getting spark in the plug. HELP. 1989 blaster.

Sounds like a melt down. Take out the spark plug and look into the hole with a flashlight. Tell me what you see.

It's dark out now. finally found the four-wheeler. it looks so sad, just sitting there... dead. we've been through alot together, and he's only bitten me twice. i felt like a doctor with my flashlight an my little mirror on a stick. Mabye i shouldn't have been an accountant...... i should have been an obstatrition (spelling?).

As you suggested, i removed the spark plug and peered into the tiny hole. i saw darkness. no, wait, a cyllinder head,... and its intact. I gave a little kick, and the head moved up & down. no cracks were visible.

I kicked 20 times to start (with plug in now), and it would occasionally push a puff out of the tail pipe with a soft backfire noise.

when it seized (i'm not sure that's what happened), i was going quite slow.

any new ideas? I'd hate to have to say goodbye to my little buddy.

Kevin.

Thats whats great about a 2 stroke at the worse you need a piston and rings ,sounds like the walls are ok.I would still get it bored out and go one over sized with the piston. It should only cost $250 Canadian because I just did my 250 Honda for that.

Great! No melt down! Spyder is correct. Time for new piston and rings.

I believe you sucked in the base gasket. If you look around the base of the cylinder you might find a little gap. That would be the problem. The problem with riding a Blaster slow is it's air cooled. If you don't have air moving fast enough over the motor it gets hot. Once it's hot is melts things and sucks gaskets. I hate air cooled motors. Every time I go to the dunes with friends one of their air cooled machines breaks.... always. Anyway good luck with it.

My kawasaki did the same thing with it not wanting to start, and it seemed like it wasnt getting any gas, so when we took it apart to look at it the manifold that holds the carb. on was loose and it was letting the gass out and too much air in, once we put that back on it worked fine, but i dont know if this will fix your problem
