OH, one more thing.

The nurse above that talked about the accidents he or she has seen, I understand your statement.

It would devistate me to lose my son. I cannot imagine the pain it would cause. However, My son does not get on the quad without a helmet.

I just do not like the fact that they target the atv crowd. I know of families that go and ski together, some times people break legs and arms, and sometimes they hit trees and die. I dont see them outlawing that. What really frustrates me is that I entered this sport as a family thing to do. It draws us together. We all enjoy it and we all do it safely. If they try to take it away from me, I will fight, and win. I will not put up with them attacking me and my family and the things we do together.

You can name off thousands of things people and their kids do together and almost all of them have some element of danger involved. As I type this there is a kids (ages 6-10 is my guess) practicing at the school behind my house. Should I go raise hell and start spouting statistics about how dangerous it is? NO, it is an outlet and a good one for the kids.

I am sure my point has been beat to death and it seems most everyone feels the same.

AARRGGGHHH!!!!! It is so frustrating.

Goodbye
Bat

Key to this argument are the statistics. They are using them to furthur their anti-OHV agenda, they don't care about "our children" they are after all, their future enemies.
.....We need to look more closely at the REAL statistics, and let them be known. The percentage of fatalities and serious injuries not caused by an outside source, like a car or truck hitting an ATV or a wire stretched across a trail.
.....Let's look at the real risks involved in Responsible Riding. With proper training, supervision and experience, on the right machine, wearing proper safety equipment including helmet and goggles at least, Just How Dangerous is it, really? I think we will see very low risk statistically. Perhaps the Helmet industry could be a source for these type of statistics....
.....We all know that beginners of any age are most at risk....
.....One of the great Ironies in this is that kids getting appropriate quads aren't allowed to take any of the training courses. They have to be on CPSC age guideline quads to take any of the courses. And then they use that as ammunition against us, that so few kids have any formal training.
.....Hypothetical...Joey gets an Ozark for Christmas. Joey is 13 years old and is 5'8" tall and weighs 135 lbs. That's pretty typical, even small for his age. The CPSC would have him on a 90 cc mini. The Ozark is a very appropriate choice for him even with a beginner experience level. Yet he cannot take a safety training class unless he can borrow somebody else's mini 90.
.....We must organize, unite, arm ourselves with message and the statistics to back it up.

Damn I'm 13, I'll be waiting a few years. Personally I doubt that the congress passes this "new" law, because there are so few of them, and more of us. We need to send mail to our congress-men or it will pass. How can they tell us what to spend our money on?? To me if you ride on your own property it's completely different than at a club/ race-track. wow this SUCKS!! they are telling us that we can't ride on our own property if not old enough?? W.T.F

I wish I could tell the media that....

there are a lot of responsible adults out there that buys ATVs for their childen and the children use these machines in safe and apporiate manner. The media is only picking up from a "few bad examples" compared to the parents/children/adults that use atvs appporiately. This just burns me...

My father bought me my first YFM 80 when I was 8... I put thousands of hours on it. This machine kept me out of trouble as a teen because when some of my friends were causing problems I was out bikeing. May be we would have less problems with teenagers if more people did the same... I Know I will buy ATVs for all my children and they will be monitored like I was. The nice thing is it's also an obentience tool, it's no fun when you don't have the key for a week :&gt

Go to WSVM's web site & keep voting on the atv poll. It's on the main page, The consumer page where the story is & on the page with the complete story.
When I first saw it it was 58%yes (them) & 24% no (us)
Now it's 51% NO (us) & 45% yes (them)

Lets make those media types choke on what they thought was going to be a sure win for the ATV haters!!

Good evening comrades
This Post really frost my a$$. BlueRulez states a good point please take the time and read what he has to say.

The first rules of statistics are that if the numbers don’t work in your favor change your sample size or your range, till the numbers work. ( they will work )

As far as new regulation laws, Yea this is just what we need (Note a hint of sarcasm)

I have one for you I know this is not atv related but it will hit home in a sec. A lady was at the fair and her kids they got a sunburn so the police arrested her for child endangerment and put her in jail for a week or two, after she was released the news stated the burns were not as server as the arresting officer suspected. If this law passes this could be anyone of us because we were teaching our own children how to drive an ATV.

its called "COMMON SENSE" and as most of you know, there is`nt much of it out there. they are trying to protect kids from their STUPID PARENTS
that let them ride quads too big, or too much power for the little ones
less coordinated and/or smaller. like putting an 8 year old on a 660 griz
or a 650 prairie. do any of you let your 8 year old drive the car to the store? same thing here, its too damn big for the little guys to handle.

think about it..

I VOTED NO on the site.....

Question, Are they SERIOUS or have they just produced a smoke cloud soon to blow over? Is there a REAL reason to do something or are they just doing this for attention saying look at me look what I did I got these guys all in a camotion, hmmmmm what should I do tomorrow? maybe stir up trampoline retailers and manufacturers for not making trampolines safer.
