Ernie, I stand corrected, it was a 12:1 JE from Trinity. Anyway, I'm getting my Wiseco 11:1 from Sunset Atv for $109.

 

For another $40, you can order directly from JE and have a much higher quality piston that will be more durable. Go with the Wiseco if you HAVE too.

 

Thanks Gary, hindsight is 20/20 but I wish I would have talked to you before I ordered the Wiseco piston. Oh well, the next time I have to tear down the engine to do a big bore kit I'll use a JE psiton.

I got a response from Tony @ Pivot Works who agrees with you guys that I would be better off with the Stage I for every day riding. He said to use the Stage II cam for racing only conditions or if I was installing a big bore kit. He said a bigger bore with a higher comp piston recovers a lot of the low end lost with the Stage II cam & compliments the top end cam nicely. He gave me detailed descriptions of how the two cams work with riding condtions & examples, very helpful! Kudos to Pivot Works & anyone else who helped me make a decision.

 

Not trying to stir up the pot but I was curious about the difference between Wiseco & JE pistons so when I called a firm in CA I asked about the difference in pistons. They stated that they heard from someone at LA Sleeve that the only difference between the two was the price! They said that supposedly Wiseco makes the pistons for JE & that they are one in the same. If anybody knows for a fact what the difference is between the two I would like to know so I don't spend extra for JE pistons in the future.

Anyway, on the bright side, I bought a Stage I Hotcam from Motorworld for $118 without having to haggle for the price, life is good!

 

Chimmer, the stage II is not that much more radical than the stage I. We use the stage II for all around riding and it still has good bottom end and top. It is advertised as a full race cam but IMO is a good all around cam. once you get your jetting and air right you would be real happy with it. It is a long way from a full out race cam. We use it for trails, dunning and puttin around. The main diference is that it is strongly recomended that dual springs are used with it and the stage one does not need them. They both are good but I like the the Stage II, it makes a difference.
