I posted a while back that i was going to the dealer to buy a Blaster. Well things didnt work out.

However I did walk away with a Red and black 2003 yamaha banshee.

Im gonna keep it stock for awhile but can you banshee guys give me some good ideas for this bike. This is my 2nd banshee so I know my way around this bike but this is my first new banshee so some tips would be apreciated.

I dont want any mods that will take away engine life. I would like to be able to beat my DS650 and my buddys even though im not expecting that from a stock banshee. So please tell me what needs to be done.

Then Ill make my baja faster and play catch up again.

It is impossible to compare fuel mileage on a bike like this. You will ride with different amounts of throttle on different terrains on different days.

For mods: First look at Pro-circuit or Toomey T-5 pipes. The pro-design pro-flo filter system is a great idea to keep dirt out of your engine. If I bought a another (even new) banshee, I would immediately take the clutch cover off and put the YZ490 clutch springs, modified shift star, high flow water pump impeller, quick drain pump cover, and use Engine Ice for coolant. These mods greatly help shifting and improve cooling. While reinstalling the clutch cover, I would pick up a set of stainless allen bolts from Hy-tech-atv to use in place of "strip me" phillips. I would put on a Motion Pro TORS delete kit, and while the carbs are off, have the reed cages milled with carbon reeds. These mods aren't cheap, but speed never is. It will make one fast combination that pulls away from raptors.

If you go with the 490 springs, buy an aftermarket clutch lever to get rid of the stock clusterf&*%. Use a parking brake block off since the P-brake doesn't work anyway. Call terrycable and buy their clutch cable. Very minimal pull is needed with this setup. I would also invest in a pro-design kill switch for safety. Nerfs are good for safety and look trick. If you do all these mods, your stock tires will never hook.

Have you started to realize there really is no end?

First thing ditch the tires they suck then get a pipe i seen that the toomeys work good and thats not just because if have toomeys My dad draged with his friends 409LA sleeve and 2 toomey piped and airfilter banshee's. His has got the national porting and pipe kit which comes with everything, carb, reeds, and so on. Him and the 403 are pretty similar cause the 409 isn't ported yet. But anywayz the Toomey Banshee's weren't that far behind in the drag my dad was pretty suprised. With pipes and new tires you'll be able to smoke a DS even stock i think it would be close if not for the tires.
