Both of our Kodiaks have the Maxxis tires. We rode last weekend with about a inch of snow on the ground, just enough to make it easy to spin and slide in 2wd When I put it in 4wd it didn't spin hardly at all even when I was trying to get it to spin.
That guy must have been on a pretty steep hillside to have his quad roll. I don't see how the tires would make much difference though. I flipped my wife's recon last year on a really steep climb. I made it to the top on my honda and went back down to ride hers up for her because she thought it was to steep. She was right I hit a tree root near the top of the climb and that was enought to lift the front end. I didn't get off the throttle quick enough or forward on the quad far enough. It came straight back over on me and broke my leg. I doubt I will ever live that one down.

I just checked the Yamaha website, the Grizzly uses Dunlop tires but they are the exact same size. I would expect the Grizzly to be more stable on a side hill because of the extra frame width and independent suspension. You sit up higher on a Grizzly though and I have read some people don't like it as much because of that. I don't personally have a problem with the stability of a Kodiak. The slightly smaller size makes it more maneuverable. I guess there is a trade off for everything but as an overall package I think the Kodiak is hard to beat.

both the kodiak and the grizzly have a lower center of gravity which to me seems to make it a harder machine to roll from side to side. i had heard stories of the front end getting light on both these machines though so steep grades had posed a possible threat. i will not be surprised though that most dealers would not share this kind of info with potential customers.

Rolled over him three times! What the hell did he do, get up and jump in the way twice more after it flattened him the first time? Sounds like another case of misplaced blame.

Hey Lou,
Not correcting you in any way, apologies if it sounded as such. I was serious, did he try to stop it or just didn't let go? Either way it sucks to be him.

Gary, no problem. What i meant to say is that when he got off to move what ever it was, in his way, the machine rolled over from side to side. He was never actually on it , and never was struck by the machine himself. He was basicly stateing that in his opinion, that the stock Dunlop Maxxis, are poorly constructed tires. Also he stated that the degree of incline, was not that great for this to have occured. I have to admit, my kodiak with its low center of gravity seems like it would be a really tough thing to do on, although i do not have alot of time on it yet. He seems to think it would be corrected with a better ply tire. What do you think ? Did these tires come on your kodiak stock? And if so how do you rate them 1 to 10.
