I seen the YZF400 quad and it was extremely fast...I cant imagine the 426. Dont know how true it is, but I heard from my dealer that Yamaha had a top secret killer YZ bases 250 quad back in the early 90's to compete with the honda 250R but never released it because the legal problems honda was having. If they were to put either the 400 or 426 motor in, I would think it would be the 426 because in the dirt bike world the 426 out performs the regular 400. I still dont see the DS650 as a big time MX bike. It seems too big and heavy to keep up on a rough track. I wouldnt count it out as a TT bike though since its suppose to be so fast. I would still like to see a 2-stroke screamer, but would settle for a extremely fast thumper.

Well, if the new quad isn't based on the 400/426 motor...then maybe its a 2-stroke. HURRRAYYY!!!
If so I might have to trade my good 'ol Banshee!
I like 4-strokes doing some things....but to me..nothing beats a 2!!!

The rumors I heard was it's going to be a four-stroke and around 600cc. They also claim it will kick everthings butt. The last thing they said was YAHAMA will keep the banshee in the line-up. The four stoke and 600cc stuff was mentioned also in Dirtwheels, so there must be something to it if different sources are saying the same thing.

The link on the main page says it "will not" be based on the YZF400 or the YZF426 so I guess it's still a big question mark

I will be very dissapointed if yamaha doesn't come out with the YZ426 quad. I thing that making a DS650 beater is a little presumptuous. The banshee almost does that now. I mean 2/10 of a second isn't much a drag race margin for stock bikes.

Does Yamaha still make that 660cc Tenere engine? Its probably quite heavy though. But a big heavy quad like the DS650 has an apeal for a smooth ride and high speed stability.. I'd like to see a 500lb Yamaha with 12" suspension and the 750cc V-twin from the Super Tenere, now we're talking.

Not that I'd buy one.

Hmmmm.....The new 4-wheel action says wait to next issue to see the new Yamaha "SCREAMER". Is this a hint to us that they know what it is and its a 2-stroke. Screamer=2-stroke Thumper=4-stroke
