I need to ask a couple of questions. I called the local dealer and asked about the jet size you have and they had no listing on it or any other than the one that is stock. If you dont mind where did you get the Jet and The K+N filter? I would like to buy these items if I can find them. Should I get more than one jet size with the K+N filter? What should the approximate cost be?
Thanks

etkimball,
Obviously I'm not the rock, but main jets are only about $4 or $5, depending on where you buy them. If you are only adding a filter, it would be a good idea to get 2 jets..one a size fatter than stock, and another one 2 sizes fatter than stock. You might pull your present main jet just to make sure what size it is. It is always better to start rejetting a little on the fat side and drop one size if necessary, than to go lean & damage you engine.
Many mail order companies, such as Dennis Kirk carry a variety of jets.. main, pilot , & jet needles for most bikes

Here's therock,
Mikuni has two styles of jets that I know of. My Kodiak uses the smaller in outside diameter style. The outside body of the jet orifice is almost the same as the threads. So don't let a dealer give you a fat one and go through what I did. (Take it apart, see the wrong style, #$Y%&@* put back together).
Kodiaks come with 132.5 jets except for California where they get a 130.0. Purchase a 135.0, 137.5 & a 140.0 and use the 140.0 with a K&N and see what happens.
Shut Off Gas. Open float bowl drain screw to empty the bowl.
Pull the side covers.
Pull the Tank cover & Tank.
Carefully loosen the OEM ty-wraps on one side of the rubber cover and roll it out of the way. Remove air box cover & Filter.
Loosen the air box boot at the box.
Remove the 3 screws for the air box.
Wiggle the box up and out.
Remove air box to carb boot from the carb.
Now you can loosen the carb to engine boot at the carb and twist the carb carefully to get at the float bowl screws.
The Jet is in the long tube with a # 8 or 9 hex on it. The tube may come out before the jet unless you hold back on the tube.
Have fun.
The screw that retains the idle adjuster is soft. Have a good screwdriver.
Get a 1999 Kodiak K&N from Rocky Mountain ATV. It is shorter and only uses the front mountong boss.
K&N has not made the 2000 one yet. Don't hold your breath too long. They are slow to make new model filters.

Did you put the K+N filter on your Kodiak? The dealer did not have a listing on the jets, do you have any part numbers to help out with. The dealers didn't know what to look for. They asked me if the parts that were being used was off of the 1998-1999 model. Thanks Again.

No K&N yet. No Yamaha numbers for the jet because it is a Mikuni part.Your parts man's Inexperience is killing you. My parts man went to his Tech and asked him. These jets are standard jets for mikuni carb's. As in my post above there are 2 styles. They are installed via a screwdriver slot. The kodiak uses the narrower or should I say shorter slotted one. It has a smaller outside diameter around the hole.
I looked at my plug with the stock air filter and with the 137.5 she is still white here in the N. GA Mountains @ 1500 Feet. I purchased a 135.0, 137.5 & a 140.0. I should have put in the 140.0. I know when I put the K&N on she will come alive.
With the 137.5 and stock filter I have noticed on steep hills where she would pull OK but not accelerate, she now gets more RPM. The K&N will flow 40% to 50% more air. I'll probably have to tear into her and put the 140.0 in when I get the K&N. A 99 Kodiak K&N will fit being 2 + inches shorter and supported only by the front bosses. It's all in how much patience I have in accordance with rather or not I wait for K&N to make a Y2K unit or go with the 99's element.
The jets cost me $2.40 each. Don't waist your $ on the 135.0. Get a 137.5 & a 140.0. Try the 140.0 first with the K&N if you are at my altltude or more.

I just wanted to let you know that I could not get back on line, some kind of error. I asked this question on the forum so that if there were anyone else wanting the information the could receive it at the same time. Thanks for the input the dealers are not up to par. -----------therock, I played mechanic for a number of years, I said played because there's not much money in automobiles if you work for someone.

Where I live is around 800 feet. I ride mostly in the mountains 35 miles north of here that can get to1300 feet. I put in a 137.5 with the stock filter and the plug is still white. I am going to put in a 140.0 and order a K&N for it that goes in a 99 Kodiak. It is as pookie stated, 2 + inches shorter and only uses the front mounting tabs. I will be devising some sort of support for the rear of the filter. The tabs on the OEM are removable so I will be able to adapt it to my bracket.
But before I do that I am going to call the K&N tech line to make sure
