UPS, Fedex, Airborne, etc....All the same. Things have to be packed it 6ft of bubble wrap or else they will break them. I can't believe how rough those places are on stuff. Of course, with the quantity of stuff they deal with and the rate it is going out they don't have time to be really gentle. Plus, the machines in the hubs typically can't read the labels marked fragile .

Sorry to hear about your situation man.

I am a shipping and receiving manager for a company in utah. It sucks to hear of this sort of thing. Un fortunately most carriers require a package to be able to withstand a 3 foot drop in order for them to pay a claim on a broken item. If they don't it should be the senders responsibilty to pay for damage or replacement. It was their responsibility to package it properly. By the way i ship NOTHING UPS unless my company isn't paying for it. They are expensive, slow, and un reliable.

What mail service should I use then? I have my cylinder and head sitting in a box waiting for me to drive it to the ups place but now yall have me scared. I can just see it coming back with bad mating surfaces and bent/broken fins. US mail shipped my pipe to me and by the time it got here the box had a 1ft rip down the side of it and I didnt even have to open the box to get my pipe out. What carrier should I use????? help fast I want to get my engine out and back ASAP.

I would use fedex. Just make sure you pack it well. Pack it so even if they do drop it it won't be damaged. They have on line shipping at fedex.com and they will even pick it up from your house.

Sorry to hear about your parts dude. I had a 250r cyl get damaged on the way to trinity and I got the song and dance. I had enough ins. to cover it and they refused to pay so I will not use ups ever again. The guy that said it has to be packed in 6in of bubble wrap is right. They also told me it had to be packed inside two brand new boxes. It is rediculous. All in all they s%ck and they aren't getting any more of my money. Expect the dog and pony show when they come to look at it!

sorry to hear about that i bought a tranny oil pan for my 68 turbo400 and when i got it IT WAS FOLDED IN HALF.
Also it is a known fact that UPS must drag your package behind the truck for at least a mile then get out and kick it back into the truck

I have had the same horrible nightmare with UPS, I ship allot of stuff and had something shipped awhile back and it showed up broken, the guy came out and all he said was that I didnt pack it good enough and then I had to pay for the repairs. If you want to ship something and want insurance I would go through like Pack N Ship Plus or somewhere similar that will pack it for you so your not liable for the packing.

Hmmmmmmm.....
Sounds like you guys gave in really easy...
I worked at a Radio Shack for about 6 years, so I've seen firsthand of what UPS is capable of ( even saw forklift tire marks on a box once... ) , BUT. IF you have insurance and IF you raise enough hell, they WILL cover it. It may require you to go speak to several managers, supervisors, etc, etc. I don't foresee any problems with you getting it covered. The guys that "come-out to inspect" are just doing their jobs, trying to keep their company for paying $$$. I'm sure if you give them the run-around, you will get it covered. Just remember, first you need to speak to someone that is the boss of whoever answers the phone, and then their boss.
