Default WTF is wrong here....

Alright, the past few weeks it's been cold over here(30-50), except for this weekend(60's). Anyways, during the cold time, I put my pipe/airbox/K&N and jetted my machine. I went with 170/175 main Jets, Needles on the fourth clip, and air screws 2 3/4 turns out. When it was cold it ran EXCELLENT. The plug looked perfect, no flat spots, just ran like a raped ape.

Now yesterday was a 3 hour hairscramble that I ran for 1/2 in b/c I got so pissed off at my bike I wanted to dump it in the creek. It would constantly spit and sputter during acceleration, felt like it had flat spots all over, and just flat out ran shitty. I let it cool down and went out again, it was better, but as soon as it got pretty warm it got 10x worse. I pulled the plug and it showed I was running rich. So now I'm stuck. I could bump down the main jets one notch, but it was running crappy in the low - mid range too.

Would I be better off getting a DynoJet Stage 2 kit and just installing that or mess with my stock peices?

This last item though, may throw a wrench into things. I am going to order a Stage 1 hotcam.....would that prolly just make me need the jet kit or will it work fine with stock carb peices and differnt jets??

I agree with Bartlett here. When I had just a slip on with a K&N air filter, I was running 150/155 Mikuni mains and it was perfect. You are just way to rich.

I do recommend the stage 2 dyno kit tho. Much crisper throttle response!

Yeah, I've come to the conclusion that I just need to spend the 65 bucks on the jet kit, and do it right.

I was running that high of jetting b/c it is very similar to Trinity's jetting instructions. They say to run 168/172 with no lid, and I thought with the K&N and the alum. airbox that it may need to be a tad fatter....no biggie, It'll all be fixed soon.

Thanks

I had the exact same setup and ran 160/165 mains, stock needle in 3rd clip. Ran great. Tried DJ and ran 148/150 needles in 3rd as well.
