Flat or round slide on carb?
86LTR - The major diference in the carbs you mention is the design of the slide. Flat being a newer design the Slide is flat not round as the older designs, hence the names. Flat Slides tout easier tuneability due to needle and jet design, midrange tuning is done with pilot jet and jet needle and E-Clip position. The tout superior throttle response and not as sensative to temperature and atmospheric changes. Mind you I am not and expert these are things I've just read lately since I've been looking at changing carbs also.

Flat slide is the way to go. Due to its design, you have greater air velocity with less tubulence because the air hits directly on the slide instead of the sides. The area behind the slide must be curved on a round slide, but can be flat on the flat slide (if you sit them next to each other you can see what I mean). You will make more power and torque with the flat.
