Beartracker anyone?
#1
Does anybody here actually own a Beartracker? If so, what do you think of it? I'm 14 and am on a very tight budget, so im looking for something cheap and reliable. How does it compare with other utility 250s? Thanks for your help!

the beartracker is a very good begginer to intermediate quad. it took alot of abuse and still runs great. when i bought it the dealer never told me about the first sevice or the break-in period, i found out about that stuff later, but it didn't effect it at all. i was going to sell it when i bought my kodiak but thought it better to hold on to it for all the little ones in the faily. i ran it with a bayou 220 and the beartracker won the drag, and pulling contest. I got on the 220 and it felt so rickety and small, i did not like it at all. i highly suggest it, good luck.

I started atving on a new '96 Timberwolf (basically the same bike). At that time I was 14 and about 180 lbs. I had so much fun on that thing. I would pull my 280lb uncle on an inner tube in snow in third gear! It has been through 4 ponds on about 20 different days, put through drag racing, pulling contest, pull trees, pulling trailers, wrecked about a dozen times, etc. We still own this bike and it starts right up after a month of not riding it. In the seven years we have owned it, I have changed the oil 4 or 5 times. The only thing that has had to be done to it is new tires. We looked at trading it in but figured why? It has never broke down, doesn't smoke, and they aren't too expensive to start with.
My uncle has a '99 beartracker but it only has about 20 miles on it, so I can't say if it has been good or not. I recommend it to him after my experience with the T-wolf. I think it would make you a good starter bike also.

TrailBreaker70,
If you liked the beartracker you will most certainly like the Recon then. Mine 99 model is heading just south of 400 hours and its still a machine I haven't even thought about getting rid of yet.

The Suzuki Ozark would be your best bet. It is the leader of the pack when it comes to the 250 class sport-utility's. Do a search on the Ozark on this forum, and you'll see why. I had a Timberwolf a.k.a. Beartraker awhile back and also owned an Ozark, although the Timberwolf was great at the time it is outdated when compared to the Ozark and Recon for that matter. I would suspect that both Honda and Yamaha will be updating there 250's in the future to keep pace with the Ozark. Don't get me wrong all three are good, dependable atv's and you shouldn't have a problem with anyone of the three, but it seems the Ozark is on top in this class, at least for now.

I have the 01 and in stock form was a good machine. I modified it with a fmf silencer, dyno jet kit, k&n air and oil filters and synthetic redline oil. It now not only sounds good but will outrun the recon, don't know about ozark. The only thing it lacks now is a better suspension.
