reeds?

Reeds help performance a lot. They allow more air to pass through. The stock reeds are restricted a lot. When you put on a set of reeds you will have to rejet in most cases if that tells you anything. If you are going to go with a set of reeds go with V-Force or Boyesen. They are both really good choices. I use to own a Banshee. Trust me they work. They are worth the money you pay for them.

I have used the Boyesen Dual Pedal and V-Force Reeds. The V-Force had the best results. During my testing the results showed a gain in mid and it hit harder from a dead stop and coming out of a turn.
Testing was cut short when I went off a jump and landed in a 2ft water hole and filled the carb up with water. You will notice a slight gain when installing the Boyesen Dual Stage Pedals though.

First off reeds will effect the jetting. Better reeds make the engine run richer by allowing a larger mixture into the engine faster. Many times you will install them and notice no power gains. If so chances are your jetting was ok before and is slightly too rich now because of the better reeds. The richer it runs the less HP you make.
So in short if your engine is jetted perfect before the reeds you may have to lean out the jetting slightly to take advantage of the HP gains from a better reed design.
A reeds spacer will ONLY give you better low end performance if put between the reed block and the engine to increase the crank case volume. It depends on where you put the spacer as to how it will affect the power. Reeds spacers do not really increase your HP, They take the HP you have and allow it to be moved around in the rpm range or change the power band where you need it most.
A reed spacer between the engine and reed block helps move the power curve lower to improve low end response, a spacer between the reed block and the intake manifold/carb will move the power curve higher helping the top end response.
It depends on the kind of riding you do as to where you put the spacer

ok thx
i have reeds and a spcer, but i put them in at the same time as the carb, so i didn't know if they helped me or not, just wanted some input and your ideas on weather they help or not
thx

Reeds are more of a fine tuning device and not a real HP adder. Yea, I'v heard the V-force ($200) add about 2 HP but I can't confirm that and never saw a dyno run.
I can say the Boyeseen reeds made NO DIFFERENCE whatsoever that I could feel. I know how to jet, BTW. Stock reeds seem fine for me. ALso, I ported my reed cages and again, could feel no difference but that probably helped a little since there were some roug edges that were cleaned up. Need power - then look someplace else other than reeds.
