Default CS 690 carb setting

Hey guys,
I have an "02" Raptor and just bought the Curtis Sparks 690 kit. I bought everything in the kit but the carbs. There is about a one year waiting list for Curtis to do his magic head work for my quad. I have the correct jets, ect. for the stock carbs with the head work when it is completed, but they will not work with a stock head. My quad is not yet put back together and Im trying to take the long guess work out of it. According to Sparks, he told me that alot of you are doing the same thing with yours. I went with the 12:1 piston and mid range cam. The bike will be running at sea level (New Orleans). If your in the same sit. that Im in, lets talk. (six60r@aol) Thanks Man. Oh ya, I have a nine months used DMC alien exhausts system for sale with the correct set up tips. DMC as no dents. Thanks

good luck, what was the question??? If it was jet size i would think you need a 185 and 190 with 25 pilots. That is what my trinity ran best with. Start there and work your way up.

Doesnt matter what kit you have brought, if you are running the stock head you will not need anything larger than (Mikuni) 160 & 165 mains, 4th clip (from the top) on the needles and 25 pilots 2.5-3 turns on the fuel screws. Or if you are running the dynojet kit 148 & 150, 4th clip on the needles and 25 pilots.

Hey thanks for the input,
Your jet settings are what you use on a stock raptor with Curtis Sparks pipe only, except he recommends using 27.5 pilots. If I use (dynojets) needles,160 and 165 mains and 30.0 pilots with my stock head, do you think it will be to much? Thats his rec. with the head work performed. You know what a pain it is to keep working and changing carb settings on raptors. Looking to get it right the first time. Ya know how it is. Thanks Man

30 pilots seem a little big. We have lots of 686's around here and 27.5 seem to do just fine. If you flow that well you probably should start out with 190 and 195 jets

CS recommended using 30 pilots 1.5-2 turns on the screws and the dynojet kit with the full CS690 kit & port and chamber work. If you haven't got any headwork done you'll be rich. The dynojet mains flow far more than the mikuni equavilents. Don't mix the Dynojet Needles and Mikuni jets, it dont work, stick with one or the other. From what you've posted you still have a standard head. It doesn't matter if you've got the biggest highest compression piston, the biggest cam, the best pipe and air filter blah blah, if the you ain't got the head flowed, that is where your limitation is and you wont need huge jets to make it work. If you use the dynojet kit you won't need bigger than 158 160 mains at the most at sea level and 160 165 for the mikuni setup. When I first got my 03 I had to run with the standard head for a few months with the 690 high rev cam setup. Just got the head back from Sparks 3 weeks ago, well worth the wait.

Now I understand how it works, thank you very very much. So the head work made a major diff. rock on......
I run alot at the L.A. Dunes and will need a longer swing arm now. Dont want too long of one because I still want to trail ride with it. Thats why I went with the mid cam. Is plus 4 about what I need for all around usage of the quad?

six60r,
It's truely unfortunate that you are not getting the FCR'S...these carbs truely make the 686 kit a monster....if i were you i would seriously rethink them.....i have the carbs and they "make" the CS 690 kit....as for the jet setting on the stock carbs with the CS 690 kit....dont be fooled if you think you can get the jetting right the first time.....practice makes perfect....i jetted my raptor prolly 20 times...and i finally got it perfect.........good luck and get those FCR'S..you wont be disappointed........trust me on this one.......
herbdon out.......
