Default 3000 post and counting

I just noticed that i passed the 3000 post mark. There was no gold watch in the mail today for Dbeck and ATV CONNECTION. Anybody else have 3000 or more post. I have been here for about 3 years posting. I was a "reader only" for 6 months before my wife showed me how to post. Back then i had a modded lakota. Web cam made me a special cam for it since none were offered. Has anybody got more than 3000 post?? How long has this site been here?? Great sight Mr. Dbeck. I have only been banned 1 time for a day. lol

14mins,

Congrats on the 3000 posts! You won't get a gold watch but you can sure have a kudos!!!!

We've been here since 1996. There was 1 personal ATV web site when we started. We had the first ATV forums, first ATV chat room and first ATV email discussion list. All the other ATV sites are copycats!

I remember how excited I got the first time we had 10 people visit our site in one day!!!! Boy....how times have changed!

14mins,

Way to go and on to 4000.

ATV Connection and ATV Connection forums got me hooked a long time ago. Its better than TV for me.

I first signed online with a computer in January of 1997 and I am sure it wasn't long after that I became a reader of ATV Connection by using one of the search engines back then I think. I just don't really remember how I came to the site. I started reading the forums later on and didn't even post for years and finally took the big plunge in July 2001.

Its been great reading and getting to know all the forum users and learning more than I really need to know about a quad.

Our first forums were written in perl and running on a UNIX box. I couldn't stand perl and even the smallest change made my head hurt! Eventually, I got disgusted with ISPs who wouldn't install software I needed or were not responsive enough. In about 1997 or 1998 we bought a Pentium Pro 200 server and that's what everything ran on. We started growing, and I added a RAID box so that we had protection against hard drive failures.

We started getting so much traffic I had to keep upgrading and upgrading...finally I started an ISP company just to support the ATV Connection. Our first big Dell server was $17,000.00. Now, today, we have 10 servers and a full point-to-point T-1. We're just now coming into our busy months so it will be interesting to see how everything performs. Dave,

That interesting in knowing how that came about.

Technology is not cheap. Our first computer was delivered on or about 11/25/96 and it was a Gateway Pentium pro 180. The move up to the Pentium pro 200 was about 600.00 dollars at that time and I didn't want to spend the extra money. Glad I didn't now, anyway the total system cost for that computer and all the extras at that time was just under 3,000.00 dollars. So going by my purchase I would say that old Pentium Pro 200 server was purchased in 1997.

That sounds about right. We paid $1500 for the PP200. It was a good server and served us well. Up until 2 months ago I was using it to run webtrends reports. The web server log file from the ATV Connection site is 1 gig and it takes about 12 hours to create the webtrends report for 1 month! We're using a pentium 400 now for our webtrends server
