Here is the deal. My Blaster has been down for a year and a half now. About a month ago i recived my cylunder after a small bore. The machinest had the piston and intrustions with it. I was just getting ready to stick the jug back on when i noticed something. The ports seem to be kind of rough. Since the guy has no idea if he chamferd the ports or not, how can i tell? Or would some wet/dry 1000 grit sand paper work if i just smoothed out the rough edges.

 

Chamfering the ports means taking the sharp edge off of the sleeve at the ports. A lot of shops neglect this which is why I don't mind paying extra for a good bore job. A file, grinder, dremel, etc is what is normally used.

 

The guy i took the Cylinder and piston to is a professional. Well at least to building awsome funny car engine and muscle car engines. The bore is very clean and the piston fits perfectly. Figured for 45 dollars a chamfer might have been included. Since it is only .01's that are being taken off the ports, do i realy need to buy a micrometer? or will my dremal or fine grit sand paper work to clean up the edges?

 

$45 is what I pay for bore jobs at FTZ. You might check around on the internet for a description of how to chamfer ports. I don't think you understand exactly what it is. You won't need a micrometer.

 

Ok, i do realize what a chamfer is. Smoothing out the Sleeve to the ports so the rough edges will not eat away at the piston. On an internet topic about chamfering i saw that you were to use a micrometer so you dont open the side of the sleeve up too much. Or am I just wrong? Also when i slice away some of the sleeve, do i keep the angle of the port the samw though out the sleeve or does it get sttep or more flat? Thanks agian.
