BANSHEE HEADS!! WORTH IT TO MOD EM?
#2
i don`t have much experiance with a shee but if i were u i would put my $ to a cool head or something like that instead cause from what i understand a worked over head from a shee will over heat quickly

It all depends on what cc the chambers are, I am planning to send mine to FTZ to have that done. They will chamber to 19ccs and rework the squish band for more power. From what I have been told, dont waste the money on a coolhead. If you want better cooling buy a good impeller for your water pump.
Oh FTZ charges $140 to do your head. So it sounds like a fair deal but you need to know who did the work
and if it was done right.

Recently, on a trip to Little Sahara, OK, to the dunes, we checked the head temperature of 3 different Banshees with a hand held infrared temperature gun.
1). My Banshee has a Cool Head with 18cc domes on piped, ported cylinders with 210 lbs of compression.
2). My son's Banshee was all stock, with 120 lbs of compression.
3). Another Banshee had a Noss Machine Performance head (new style - stock cylinder studs) with 20cc domes on stock ported cylinders (~175 lbs compression) and pipes.
Holding the instrument such that the temperature recorded was from the center of the water jacket area on the top of the head on the left side and right side, we recorded the following head temperatures:
1). 158'F (right and left side)
2). 204'F (right) and 200'F (left)
3). 148'F (right and left side)
As you can see from the numbers above, the "cool heads" indeed work. I was suprised to see this much difference in head temperature from stock head to aftermarket head.
The differences in #1 and #3 can be attributed to the difference in compression.
As a side note of interest, we also checked a Honda 440 EX and the head temperature of that machine was 347'F.
All of the above numbers were recorded after several hard runs down the drag strip.

From my experience the only beifit from a cool head is the temp. difference. I agree with RC and Outofcontrol. A stock head professionally work with benifit you more. Buy a impellar or a inline cooler.

My TT bike has stock head and the playbike has a Trinity head. I can tell know difference in temps. Personally, I prefer stock head gaskets to the junk a$$ o-rings. FTZ is the place to have your head modded. Two stroke heads need more attention than just shaving the deck. FTZ actually modifies the squish angle also. Shaving/rechambering the head is a great mod.

Id go with the stock shaved head and an impellor. When those heads were measured for temp, were they all tuned correctly? Jetted right? I feel the cool heads are a waste of money. 200 degress is not overheating by the way..
