deisel engines on quads??
#4
Diesels are expensive beceause of the guts it takes to handle the massive compression ratios. Also, there is such a thing as a 2 stroke diesel, that would be perfect on a quad

Those are the engines that power trains and large mechinery..... a tipical 2 stroke diesel makes about 1500 hp, give or take a few handreds, but they weigh about ten times their power output and requaier some sort of forced air indaction system, so its not realy feasable to put it on a quad. and yes polaris did make a diesel quad.

The main advantage of a deisel engine isn't in the horsepower it produces, but in the gobs of torque that it churns out. What Polaris was banking on was the inherent value that Ranchers would see in a common fuel type and good chassis of the Sportsman Deisel. It seemed that the weight and cost penalties and lackluster engine output outweighed the small advantages for the working ranch and sales didn't come as brisk as expected. The idea was good, just delivery left something to be desired.
