when changing the rear brakes on a 1999 Grizzly do you have to remove the nut on the rear axle with the cotter pin in it and which hand thread is it. How much torque should be applied to the nut when replacing it? Also is there anything else i have to do in order to remove the rear drum?

Thanks for the help.

Yes you do have to remove the axle nut, they are right hand threads counterclockwise to loosen,i am not sure of the torque spec on the axle nut

I am not sure, but I think that rubber ring is probably for vibration or to reduce brake squeal. What was wrong with your brakes ridgerunner? Was it like on my Grizz where the horizontal pin that activates the brakes was tight and starting to seize not alowing the brakes to release?

The rubber is supposed to seal from the dirt but it does not work. If your's is burned , that means that your lining was seized and created a lot of heat. Also you are supposed to put grease around the seal to prevent dirt from getting in the drum. I am with Raybestos automotive brake company and trust me , this system is very old primitive and sucks . Don't waist to much time on it . Good Luck ! Charlie
