New oil filter every oil change?
#1
I understand the importance of changing the oil due to breakdown, etc. but what about the oil filter?. Are the long-term benefits worth while? Any opinions or links to studies? I try to change the oil every 12-15 hrs of riding but this seems extreme for changing the expensive oil filter.

There is a A/C Delco oil filter I and a lot of the form members use. I just can't remember the Part number. PM 14mins and he will tell you.
There a thread here in form that give all the part numbers of the different oil filters that work.

Consider the Scotts filter that you can clean. I clean it up each service without hesitation because it's not costing $10-12 bucks each time. Although, the $150 price tag seems steep, it'll easily pay for itself in less than two years. Also, I like the fact that I can see what it has trapped and there is a magnet that catches the very fine (sludge) stuff. Nice workmanship too !

Ooops - wrong price, good catch Moose ! I did pay $109 ($115 after shipping) . That makes it even more attractive !!!!

Thanks for the replies, that's what makes this forum valuable. Although I didn't get exactly what I wanted (scientific evidence), I got a reasonable solution.
I ordered the Scotts' filter today. This seems to be the best all around solution. Just trying to do what I can to lower the cost of owning an expense. It doesn't help when you have three quads that you are paying for the upkeep on. It isn't so bad paying for the Honda filters at $2 each. If I like the Scotts' filter, I will most likely get them for the 400exs too.
I still think changing a stock Yamaha filter every 12-15 hours is extreme. I doubt you have that much clutch matter to clog the filter enough to cause the bypass to release. Lets face it, the filter isn't much smaller than many japanese car filters that are good for 3,000+ miles. The one difference is a car engine isn't dealing with clutch plates in th engine oil. I would bet you can go 30 hours without even worrying about early engine failure - meaning there isn't a significant difference between a 15 hour oil filter change and a 30 hour oil filter change. I was hoping for some links to scientific analysis versus what someone's Uncle Elmer believes.
