My riding buddy just bought a used 2000 Banshee but it has a front wheel that was smacked and needs to be replaced. Can anyone direct us to someone who would sell one?

We found one locally, but it is the gold anodized finish, rather than silver. How hard would it be to polish off the gold to reveal the aluminum finish?

 

It's not too hard to remove the gold anodize. Your best bet is to use easy off oven cleaner and some fine 3M pads.

I just did mine and they look pretty good. This is a picture of them after I finished them.

The wheels looked so much better that I ditched those tires and put Holeshot XCTs on all 4.

I don't know why it wouldn't. Just make sure you have plenty of elbow grease on hand. I might have understated the task in my previous post, but it is certainly doable and a lot cheaper than buying a set of polished Douglas wheels.

If you think that it may not work, try it on the inner side of the wheel first to see how much you can remove. Don't try it without the oven cleaner. The anodized layer is very hard and you will be scrubbing on it this time next year if you don't use something to help eat away at the anodized part.

I used the red (purple) 3M pad for the first scrubbing and then moved to the gray 3M pad, then steel wool, then cloth with Mothers polish.
