Dfitz i had the same problem as you, but instead of changing the sprocket ratio, i put in a stage 2 cam and a weico 11:1 piston, i pull 3rd easy now. Going to get some 22" see if i can pull those, if not Looks like a port and polish

I'm going to put in 11:1 piston and will look into port and polish. I have the stage 1 cam, don't really want to change all that it takes to put in stage II cam. Let me know how the 22" work for you, maybe I should rethink the stage II. I want to make sure I can pull the 20" or 22" paddles. What kind of gas do you use?

Dfitz,
If your going to have an 11:1 and a cam you'll pull 3rd with 12/42 gearing easily with 22" tires and a lot easier with 20" tires. You'll be wanting to try 4th at Dumont off to the right side hill anyway. I'm 260lbs so I can't do 4th but maybe a lighter person can with those mods.
I bought new 20" hulers for my other raptor before pres weekend and i tried them on my Raptor on Sunday, lets just say I'm going to get me some 20" tires for my quad as soon as I can. It pulled hard and was gaining speed every foot up the hill with the 20" tires. Much better than with the 22". I used 22" because I hear the 20" dig holes on the start. I found that not to be true and with the current gearing I have 12/42 it was a faster ride up the hill.

I to am in the 260 range and I bought the Raptor thinking it would be good enough to do what I wanted it to do. But damn I can't stop wanting to do just alittle bit more to see how it does. This bug has bit me hard. Well thanks for the info you have helped me more than once and maybe some day I'll see ya on a dune.

That would be cool Dfitz. If you ever see a black and white Raptor with a Red flag and the redskins logo (helmet) on this red flag it will be me. Dumont, Glamis or Pismo. If there is a little guy on it ask him where I am as it will be my son. Unless your bike is more modded than what mine is now don't race him, it won't be pretty. He's only 100 lbs. Should there be another out there with a Redskin logoed flag, well, then, say hi anyway.

I to have a kid that I like to watch race my quad and jump. He has a 400ex with mods and loves to jump it. But when we are at a hill he likes to use mine. He is 150lbs but that is 100lbs+ less than me, he out runs alot of other quads. Never been to Dumont is it worth the extra travel time from San Diego. We usually go out to Gordens well. 2hr trip.

I've never been to Gordons well. Thats an extra hour drive for me to go to Glamis. Glamis and Dumont is about 3 hours each for me. Dumont is a fun place to go. It is small but the Dunes are big and the ride around the Dunes is a lot of fun. Comp hill is the best I've seen. Better than Olds imo. Theres a picture of part of Dumont on the first page in my signature, also videos of us racing and playing at Dumont and other places. Justin is my 100lber. Maybe we'll hook up at GW one day.

That sounds good. Always looking for people who like to ride the dunes. I would like to see our kids hit the hill. I like to do it to, but the quad is alot faster with my fat a$$ not on it. I still need to put my piston in before there would be any chance to compete with yours. We have B/W 02 Raptor with an American flag. Don't have a Chargers flag yet. Usaully ridding with 2- 400ex's, 1 red race cut fenders (usaully in the air more than on the ground), 1 yellow and a really loud (needed all the power it could get) red 300ex. I will visit Dumont sometime, gots to see what it's like.
