You answered your own question with your comparison. Change the 300ex with the Z and the Banshee with the Raptor and the comparison is the same.

If you guys were to buy a 03' Raptor would you recommend the extended warranty considering the Raptor's history ?

Thanks

I would get the warr. I bought it and at one point was wishing I didn't because my raptor was running great with no problems and basically still is, reverse and second can be flakey at times. But reading about all the problems with the tranny I'm VERY happy I bought it so I can bring it back to the dealer and have them do the 02 trans conversion if and when the trans gos bye bye.

Raptors are awesome, but beware - Yamaha is not standing by their products. Myself and many others are out in the cold after spending lots of $$. If you enjoy tons of maintenance - buy one. The Raptor was rushed to market with a street-bike motor and tranny - even the 03's suffer from this.

Granted, I'll fix my tranny and ride on but a 250R with the same mods would be much less trouble and very close on race day.

To be honest, I wont buy another......

I'll almost guarantee you they will not pay for the upgrade to 02 gears. At best they will pay parts or labor and you will pay the other. If you stay with 01 gears they may or may not pay for it as they will say its rider abuse. Then they may play the good faith thing and pay for parts or labor and you pay the other. jmo.

Also the 03 do not have these problems. There is not 1 known case of tranny failure.

I'm not an authority, but I have ridden the Z and the EX and I'll stick with the Raptor. I may have to replace the trany or I may not, but I like the power. I know Yamaha hosed their customers and they're going to lose a bunch of them. How many of you are going to run out and buy the 450 when it comes out even IF the magazine writers say it's the best thing since chunky peanutbutter. We'll see.
