I think the price is pretty good. And I concur with fakie, a stock used Banshee is the only way to go. I was looking at some used bikes with pipes and that sorta stuff, cheaper than the one I got(a 99 for 4900) but then realized that if it has pipes it has been ridden hard, so I waited and found a stocker.

Sounds like a decent deal to me....It's always good to get a stocker.
Even if it needs rings or pistons...It's alot cheaper than trying figure out what is wrong with someone elses modded up time bomb.
The hardest part about buying used...Is taking someones word that the tranny/bottom end is in good shape. It's always nice if the person lets you ride it so you can at least shift through the gears and listen for any grinding/clunks/knocks...etc.
Good luck with the purchase.

yep...and not only the ridden hard part, but many atv-ers do thier own work as well. this can be trouble if new pipes were installed and jetting was not updated accordingly. also, i once heard of a guy who had done his own PORTING. he hadn't done it before, but there couldn't be much to it, could there...?

That's a super price. Ask for background: Is he the original owner, if not who was? Ask if he did any repairs on it and what kind. Did he do them or did he pay a repair shop to do them. Check the oil level & color (low-black?) check the air cleaner (dirty?) Check the rear axle, swing arm and front suspension for looseness/slop. If you have acess to a compression tester you might check it as well. Take it for a ride check front and rear braking, shifting (smoothe?) Check lights & kill switch. Check seat & plastic for tears, cracks or repairs. If all looks in good, stock, complete and in good shape I'd grab it as that's pretty darn cheap.
