Default Mobil 1 oil for raptor

I have done some searches and have seen that people are using Mobil 1 syntetic oil. Is that oil just the oil you buy from the local auto parts store? Is it just auto oil or oil for motorcycles with the additives for the wet clutch??

Make sure you pick one that does not say "Energy Conserving" in the little circle on the back. I found 15W50 that is ok. That higher weight seems to be good for the hot-running Raptor engine.

Good luck!

no no no - do not use automotive synthetic oil (ex Mobil1 15W50) in your raptor!

according to Mobil, the only oil that they recommend for wet clutch applications is the Mobil 1 MX4T which is a 10W-40 oil that is FULLY synthetic and contains no friction modifiers or viscosity improvers. Its a little more expensive, but is available from autozone, or online at autobarn.com. Use synthetic oil, but dont use an automotive one.

Thanks Tundraotto for correcting my misinformation. I heard guys on here talking about using Mobile 1 and I just assumed it was the same stuff you use in a car. Until now I have never seen or heard or this MX4T oil. How much does it cost per quart? How did you find out about it?

Thanks for the info!

I have been making my own special blend of synthetic/dino oil and I have been using the 15w50 mobil one synthetic auto oil for years.

Ok, I saw in my owners manual too that Im not to use Energy Conserving oil II... Why is that anyway? And who makes a synthetic 20W-40 anyway other than Yamaha? What else would be a good choice for a 450 Kodiak?

I use Amsoil 10w40 Fully Synthetic High performace motorcycle engine oil in my Kodiak 450 and My BIg Bear 400. It is compatible with wet clutches. AMsoil has now come out with Fully Synthetic oil specifically for atv's but it is 0w40. I feel that is too thin (my opinion).
I run amsoil in everything that I own and have for years. IT is good oil.

Hi guys, yeah the 15w-50 synthetic is a common problem with bikes as it seems like a great way to go. I talked to the mobil tech line and got the scoop from them. (Of course they could be feeding me a line of bull but he assured me that 15W-50 contained viscosity improvers and friction modifiers). To try and confirm this I sent an email to their email and got this response:

>
Mobil1 15W50 does contain friction modifiers which can cause adverse
effects to wet clutch applications and should not be used. Mobil
recommends that you use the Mobil motorcycle motor oils and they do not
contain any viscosity index improvers so the product is much more shear
stable.
>

I agree with jdm completely with the viscosity stretch on the 0W-40 (horsep*&s) feels very thin for a motorcycle type application. I do not share the sentiment that AMSOIL is a good oil as their line of synthetic 2 cycle products have less than an OK reputation - of course this is due to them recommending 100:1 ratios etc, and is a whole other story....

Oh yeah, just broke the bank and brought 3 qts of Mobil MX4T for $7.99 + tax at Autozone.

Has anyone tried just 15w50 Mobile 1? What were the results?

Tundraotto, is tht $7.99 per quart or for all three? If that is per quart, that will get very f'ing expensive changing oil after every race.
