Reverse indicator light flashing on an '02 Raptor?
#1
Has anyone had a problem with the reverse indicator light flashing on an '02 Raptor? I put a halogen driving light on the back of my quad (55 watts) for a reverse light. It was wired to activate off of the stock indicator light through a relay. We have been riding at night in the mud and need to see behind us to avoid rocks. Also tells the guy behind me to get the h%@# out of the way. The problem has been recently in the cold. In any gear or in neutral, rev the engine too high (roughly 5,000 rpm) and the light flashes. Shut the quad off, restart it, and only sometimes does it do it again. Only had it happen 4 times out of the 200+ times since the light was put on. Never had this problem with my '98 Warrior that is hooked up the same way since I bought it new. Other than the annoying light flash, it doesn't affect drivability. Any ideas? Also found a relay (#275-249A) from Radio Shack that can be wired from a PRO-DESIGN kill switch to open the circuit to the ignition coil. The relay is both a normally open & a normally closed switch. I wired it on the normally closed side and it works great. Just thought I'd try to help those of you with a DYNA ignition and kill switch.

I found this problem to be with the reving up to high and not going anywhere. If you rev it up and it starts blinking, move the bike forward or backward a few steps and it will stop. Its some kind of funky thing yamaha did.

Yes, the factory put this option in to help trouble shoot the speed sensor. Raptors and Grizzlys have this feature...there was a factory service bulletin on it.
If the cdi does not see a signal(movement) from the speed sensor and the bike is in park or N and the rpm is >3000 for 10sec it will blink the R light in 1 sec intervals.
Reset by turning the key off
