Default Stupid atv accidents??

Great thread. Some of those posts had me rollin over here. I just as well throw in a couple of stupid accidents from Nebraska. Before I do I just want to say I'm thankful that we aren't the only ones that have these "mishaps".

Ok first one wasn't mine but I was there. A buddy was following me down along this sandy trail to get to the river where we ride. Well this trail takes a sharp right turn that is about a 45 degree downgrade to go around a pond. It then loops back around to the left around this small pond that is probably 20 foot across and is quite deep. Anyway, it was getting dark and we were probably going a bit too fast and were probably a bit "impaired". Just a quick note that my Grizzly has 27" Outlaw tires on it so you can about imagine what following me on a sandy trail is like... So we are cruising along and my buddy is behind me. I take the sharp right and then head back around to the left around this pond. Well as I'm coming back around I look in the pond and see what looks like headlights under the water. I was like WTF??? Then it hit me that it was the front end of my friend's Prairie! What happened was he was going too fast and with all the dust I was kicking up he missed that sharp right turn and went straight off the bank, down about 15 feet and right into the pond. LOL It really wasn't funny at the time but we laugh about it now. As it turns out only the front half of the quad was in the water. My friend had bailed off and landed on his back just short of the water. Fortunately there were a bunch of dead tall weeds that helped break his fall. He ended up with a broken finger and bruised pride out of that one. We got him out and it was all good.

Now for mine. Here again was myself and my friend on the Prairie. We were cruising along this tight trail heading home after dark. I was in the lead again but a ways up from him. This is a trail I ride all the time but for one reason or another I must not have been paying enough attention. I was cruising along about 25mph when all of a sudden my Grizzly just stops dead in its tracks. Of course my body kept going. I landed a little bit ahead of the bike on my side and see my quad spinning like a top on its back two tires. It was kind of neat to see actually until it finished spinning and landed on its side onto my leg. I knew my friend was close behind so I was doing my best to use my other leg to push on the back rack to free myself. Turns out he saw the whole thing and slowed down. I was scraped up and very sore but that was all. I was very lucky. What I hit was a dead tree that had one of its branches sticking out just into the trail at tire height. It hit perfectly into the bead of my tire/rim. Stopped that 660 on a dime! Great times!!! LOL

Wow that is a long post...

Default Stupid atv accidents??

This one put me out for a while. I'm at the local sand bar where I have ridden 1,000s of times before. I notice a jump that someone on a dozer had made. I ride back till I find my buddies and lead them back to it. Its a 40 foot double that only dirtbikes have been jumping. The jump looked good but the tiny stretch in front of the jump had King Kong sized whoops in it. My buddies tried talking me out of it but I was feeling lucky that day. After three practice runs I pinned it and managed to get half way through 4th gear. When I left the lip I started to wheelie in the air, I pulled my front brakes, then jabbed my rear, still I'm at an almost 90 degree angle to the groung flying through the air. The ground is so far below me I knew it wasn't gonna land good. I completely cleared the landing and landed flat on the other side. When I landed the front end slammed down so hard it threw me over the handle bars. Yes I was wearing my helmet but it desides to fly off on my way over the bars. The video shows that I didn't strap my helmet. I was messed up bad, My Banshee only had a very slightly bent axle.
