Default banshee jetting

i have a 2003 banshee with toomey t5's. i live at 2000-3000 ft elevation, and i am having problems with my main jet. i have the 280's in but when i check the plug avter running hard like 3/4 to full throttle the plug is white, no speckles or anything just plain white. should i bump up the main jet up or what. i checked it by putting in a new plug (avtually 2 of them) and flying through a feild in all 6 gears, then shutting it down and checking it. is this the proper way or should i have run it longer or... anything would help

thx

You are running way way too lean.

you will need to bump up the main jets some where around 300 somewhere in that area.

On the jetting you can jet while on 4th gears wipe open for about 5 sec or so then shut it down real quick. Don't coast the engine to the stop it will give you false reading on the plug.

Hopefully that will help you....

ok, so i don't have to run it long to get a good reading, just like through to 4th gear and shut her down, and the plug should be like golden brown. i know everything is right except the main, and yes that does help thx

I agree with desracer, you should probably be up about 300. I run a 290 in mine, but I run pod filters, and am at 6000 ft. I would guess you should be at 290 or 300.

My plugs are usually just slightly on the brown side, I run pretty close to the edge with jetting, but it rips. Your proccess sounds good, but I also agree that you dont have to get into 6th, 4th is probably good enough. I usually cant find a long enough stretch to get into 4th or 5th.

Try a 300 and see what you get, I bet it is real close.

ok thx a ton
so i guess my main question is will my plug change colors imediettly, or does it take a long time. i thought that you had to run it for a longer time to get a good reading, but from what you are saying it will be fine after just a short ride, like a couple hundred yards. thx guys

thx, i don't understand y toomey doesn't tell you to run a 300. the kit says run a 280 from 0-2500ft, but its way too lean. that is weird

If you are running the pro-flo without the airbox lid than your jetting is going to be different from what toomey is telling you. Their jet is for a stock air filter with holes in the box.

I agree with everybody else. 300 mains should be just right.

About checking the plug - I gave up on that method because I never felt it was going long enough to get a real color. Personally, I just ride hard for a while then check them. Probably not right but it seems to work for me. ALso, if you are lean you will run hot.
