Default Drag Struts

In a 300ft sand or dirt drag, how much does front and/or rear solid struts help? what height is everyone running them at? I've pretty much heard 12in from end to end, and 10.5in from center hole to center hole. So the hole is drilled 3/4in from the end. Does this sound about right? How much should it improve my time, and why?

I have front struts 11 3/4" center to center (they are adjustable though) & they help a lot!
Any lower than that then you'll get in to ball joint bind.
It works in 2 ways,
1. it lowers the front ends center of gravity making it harder to pull the front end up at a WOT launch.
2. with out the spring action wanting to push the front end up it also makes it harder to bring the front end up on launch.

I just went to a local shop that builds race cars & got some struts from them.
They're aluminum struts with hime joints (left & right hand threads)
you can find them most any speed shop.
